Ben Affleck Backtracks On THE BATMAN Comments; "There Is No Movie Happening Yet"

Recent comments from Ben Affleck about The Batman have got us all very excited, but the filmmaker has now backtracked not only on the title, but just how far along the project currently is (hint: not very).

Did Ben Affleck reveal a little too much about The Batman or did we all just jump the gun and get a little too excited too soon? It's hard to say, but during a Facebook Q&A with E! News (via Batman-News) today, the actor backtracked on both the possible title for the movie and made it clear that it's still in the early stages of production. So, should we forget that rumoured November 2018 release?

Maybe. For now though, here's what actor had to say about where things stand with the movie. If you'd rather hear his comments for yourself, he begins talking Batman around the 4:32 mark.

"I mentioned the other day… it’s been around for a long time, the movie… there is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff. And someone said, ‘what are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, back when we were promoting another movie, I was like ‘we don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the title of his Batman movie.’"

That's not exactly the most promising of updates, but on the plus side, at least he's clearly still working hard on making it a reality. Affleck confirmed in another interview today that he's heading to Iceland this week to shoot Justice League, so he has a lot on his plate right now, especially with The Accountant's press tour only just wrapping up. Stay tuned for further updates as we have them.

- Script has not been finalised
- Budget has not been allocated
- Title has not been selected
- Release date has not been chosen
- Filming dates have not been chosen
- Cast has not been chosen

In essence DCEU jumped on the bandwagon of a Batman Solo film hype when people were talking about how BvS should have established Batman first. So they decided to rush the announcement of a Batman solo movie before anything was even happening with it.

This film is probably about the same level of progression to happening as the 2020 Green Lantern movie. Sure it probably could happen, but it depends on the success of other films before it and is currently not being worked on.

@Invictor - the [frick] he's saying is that it's still early in the process and that nothing is set in stone yet.

@Scarilian - You're high. If there's one movie that's almost guaranteed to be produced whatever happens to the DCEU, it's Affleck's Batman.

@WilliamHMacy -

I spoke about the current factual stage it is at not some fan bias of whether the movie is going to get made.

Factually it is as close to being made as Green Lantern is. Arguably they have probably done more planning for the Green Lantern movie given that has a release date. Neither has got their footing yet and both rely on the DCEU surviving that long.

Any film can be cancelled and that is most likely to happen before filming begins. If they decide to reboot, then we likely wont see a Ben Affleck solo movie as they would want to move away from the previous DCEU.

@Scarilian - As far as we know, GL has no director, no screenwriter nor any cast attached. The Batman has Affleck, Johns, Simmons and Manganello (?). Since they have some work already done for that movie and absolutely none as far as we know for GL, I think it's closer to being made. Furthermore, Affleck's Batman already has the public's interest.
