The list of special features for Sam Liu and Bruce Timm's Batman and Harley Quinn recently surfaced and it revealed the DC animated film that will follow August's direct-to-video flick.

According to the list, discovered by ComicBook.com, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will be the latest film created by DC's animated film division. Sound familiar? It should! Gotham by Gaslight was a DC Comics one-shot written by Brian Augustyn and illustrated by Mike Mignola in 1989. The story centered around the Dark Knight in Victorian times, as he battled against Jack the Ripper.

The comic's official synopsis can be found below.

In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.

Due to the success of Gotham by Gaslight, a sequel was created in 1991 titled Master of the Future. It is unclear whether or not DC will adapt that comic after "Gaslight," however, if the animated film has the same amount of success as the comic, you can expect to an announcement shortly after that film is released.

The first sneak peek for Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will be featured on the Batman and Harley Quinn DVD, which hits the shelves on August 29, 2017. If you're anxious to see how this film looks, keep an eye out for that. For now, share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Hmm. . Nowhere in the article or the comments is the name 'Mike Mignola' mentioned. The single most defining element of that story isn't even acknowledged in passing.

*le sigh*

Correct me if I'm wrong, but of all the DC films in the new DC animated universe, and all the elsewhere films that have tagged along, the only one to not be Batman centric, or just have batman in it(forced or natural inclusion) is Judas Contract(gods and monsters as well, but it did have an alternate universe version of Batman). Even Judas Contract featured two Batfamily members, and a villian from a previous Batman centric animated film, making it tie to the Batman end of things quite strongly.

I really like Batman and want them to continue making Batman centic/included animated films, but I'm quite tired of every announced upcoming animated DC film being so. Have faith in more of your properties WB/DC.
