As Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux continues to round out its cast, the latest addition is Industry star Harry Lawtey. The 25-year-old British actor has also appeared in The Magpie Murders, City of Tiny Lights, and The Pale Blue Eyes.

As is so often the case, no details on his character were disclosed, but Deadline reports that he is expected to have a "big role" in the upcoming sequel.

Lawtey joins Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, and Zazie Beetz as the returning Sophie Dummond. We recently learned that Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Jacob Lofland have also joined the cast in mysterious roles.

Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that the majority of the film will take place in Arkham Asylum, and contain significant "musical elements." A recent rumor also suggested that Gaga's take on Quinn will have a bigger role than originally reported, with the story playing out entirely from her perspective.

Apparently, this is where the song and dance numbers come in, as Harls "views her relationship with Joker" through musical sequences.

It's an interesting direction to take this sequel in, for sure, but Phillips has clearly earned a lot of trust at the studio after the first film proved to be a such a massive box office success.

Joker: Folie à deux is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.

Young Alfred.

Listen, you've got a five year old Bruce and a forty year old Joker.

This is such a bad idea! I was once a fan of Todd Phillips after Joker came out because he leaned into the character driven pseudo-realistic tone, but I think that now he is just slapping comic book characters into films that have otherwise little else in resemblance of the actual characters. WB is so creatively bankrupt the films they are putting out not only do not connect organically to each other, but I am not even sure they should be considered in the same genre.

@Forthas - shared universe concept became a purely business model and definition of creative bankruptcy, so I'll take a good standalone movie over another soulless toy or cinematic universe commercial that tries to sell me merch every few minutes, thanks.

@TCronson - The comic from which these IP's come are in a shaed universe going back to the 1960's. So how is it the result of a "business model" While solo films are great and should be continued, team ups are also great and one approach does not negate the other.

@Forthas - I don't mean comic shared universe, I mean today's shared universe model which is so overused and pretty much used to sell shit like toys and setup tons of crossovers/sequels/spin-offs/TV shows, it often serves no purpose to the actual story and diminishes it because you can see they care much more about selling future content than telling a good self-contained story that has something to tell. All 3 MCU "Spider-Man" flicks suffered greately from some of the most cynical use of this model I've ever seen, their reception puzzles me to this day. There's more than enough shit like that on the market, Black Adam comes out this week, so I don't see any issue with at least one big comic book IP owner doing real films with real artistic value from time to time.

The movie isn't coming out for another two years. So what's with all the updates?
