Andrew Garfield played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and while his tenure as the wall-crawler came to an abrupt end, that could change with this December's Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor has yet to take on any other superhero movie roles, though there are some fans who would like to see him suit up as Batman villain The Joker.
There's plenty of fan-art to be found with Garfield transformed into the Clown Prince of Crime, but what does the actor himself think about potentially joining The Batman franchise?
In the video below, the former Spider-Man makes it clear he "wouldn't go near [playing Joker]," adding "[It's] sweet of you to think that it's possible. But I don't think I could ever do it because of what Heath [Ledger] did, what Jack Nicholson did. And, but then, of course, Joaquin [Phoenix] did his own genius thing."
It's easy enough to understand why Garfield wouldn't necessarily want to follow in the footsteps of those actors given what iconic performances they delivered, while his love of the Spider-Man character could mean he's simply not interested in making the leap to DC. Recently, there have been rumours that Matt Reeves cast Eternals star Barry Keoghan as The Joker, but we'll see if that pans out (it feels like this new franchise should probably focus on some different villains).
