Now back to the Abortion talk. If Chris Nolans mom would have aborted him would Heath ledger still be alive? But then joel schumacher would have made more movies and the universe would have crumbled in to nothingness. hahaha sorry just sayin

So is this the first step in the greatest practical joke of all time being revealed in The Dark Knight Rises? I have long speculated that there is a possibility that Ledger is still alive. Just like Juaquin Phoenix did not become a rapper in real life.

In TDK the Joker says that he and Batman are the same. So then the Joker considers himself a Dark Knight. That being said, who's there to pick up the pieces for Batman when Bane breaks his back? The Joker. And the joke is on all of us for buying into the biggest practical joke of all time believeing that Heath Ledger is dead. Who better than an actress that needs some attention to cry about the night they were together?

I know. I know. Say I'm nuts. It is morbidly insane to think like this but it still is logical to play into the possiblity that Nolan has set up the biggest pubilcity stunt of all time and at the same time provided a great actor the setting for the quietest hiatus of all time. AND see an ending to Batman we never imagined...Joker killing Batman and himself at the end of the movie. Your thoughts?

Tasteless? I guess once you are dead your likeness should never be used again? Not even closed to making sense. Jack a better Joker than Heath?!?! That's all a matter of opinion but to say Heath didn't give an Oscar caliber performance is crazy. Two different takes on the character, both equally deserving of the recognition they received.

@tEA Madbroism is definitely a decease. I have a friend who's really into Smallville. He has all the DVD sets and stuff. He assumed I watched it too, and when I told him I didn't watch that shit I thought a fight to the death was next.

Nicholson's Joker was fun back in the day. But let's keep it real; it was cool because it was Jack Nicholson. How else could we all forgive the fact that he made a fat ass Joker.

But they gave him some classic things to work with. The prop gun, the chatter teeth and most worthy, the smile-inducing Joker products. It was like Joker Fish.

And before you get the wrong impression, I was livid when I first saw Heath Ledger as Joker. The casting and the look sent me into a rage. Since when is Joker a dirty ass horror clown? Joker is dapper. Clean suits and slicked hair. Needless to say, I was blown away y Ledgers surprise performance. He didn't even look or sound like Ledger. He was completely lost in the role. He deserves his props. He's earned them.

Exploit of the man's death.

And exploit of something general audience would relate, because Best Actors rarely go to popcorn movies. (popcorn meaning blockbusters, before the bashing begins).

Ledgers joker was so much better then Nicholsons..."joker 89" fell from building screaming his ass off. "joker 08" fell from building laughing his ass off. now thats one crazy joker and true to the comics. and i agree with NeoBaggins Ledger completely changed and totally deserved the Oscar.

If Nicholson had played the joker with the age that he was in 'THE SHINING', then he would be the best Joker ever. But Burton's Joker was a chubby, funny uncle which doesn't scare even a small child. Excuse my shitty english! Damn...
thisheart
thisheart - 2/9/2012, 10:50 AM
Here's the thing that sets Nicholson and Ledger's jokers apart. Nicholson was just playing Nicholson in a Tim Burton movie. (Much like Johnny Depp does). Ledger, however, completely disappeared into his role, becoming a living, breathing character. And even without the makeup he could have pulled this off. In Brokeback Mountain, he completely became Ennis Del Mar. There was no pretty boy Heath.

I can safely agree with Marvel72, Intruder, and the like who argue Nolan's version of Joker doesn't look like the character we all know and love from the comics, but for one movie or another, Ledger DEFINITELY deserved an Oscar.

Yes I agree Father Midnight, when you watch Easy Rider, you see the perfect age Nicholson should have played Joker.

Holy shit.
It's a great way of recognizing that The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker was a fantastic enough characterization and performance that the Oscars would even acknowledge it in such a fashion. Just think; We showed you how to go mad? The Oscars could have put Hannibal Lecter on that. They could have put Anton Chigurgh on that. This isn't a debate over which of those 3 is the best, it's an honor that they chose the Joker (a comic book villain over a Cormac McCarthy villain and a screen legend villain) to be on that.
Some of y'all take this shit far too seriously. And btw, Heath Ledger was not driven to his death by the role, he said more than once that it was the most fun he'd ever had playing any character.

Sick! Awesome tribute to the greatest Joker on screen yet.

And as for Nicholson? He was great, but basically just Nicholson in white grease paint. Let's not pretend he had to stretch his acting chops to the limit, guys.

Can anyone say they that if they kept it a secret on who played the Joker, you would be able to tell who played him based on that performance? If you could say yes, you'd be lying. Total disappearance.
