Ben Affleck Talks BATMAN v SUPERMAN; Teases Zack Snyder's "Visually Inventive" Style
In another interview with the star of David Fincher's incredible Gone Girl, Ben Affleck talks about what it's been like to work with Zack Snyder as well as how the Watchmen and Man of Steel director is integrating special effects into the story and much, much more...
"That's my stern Batman look," laughed Ben Affleck when Inquirer pointed out his "very stern" look during an appearance alongside his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director and co-stars at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. However, the interview took a much more serious turn when it came to praising Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio's script. "[Batman v Superman] has a great script. It has a very talented director, a really strong, smart, robust and experienced studio behind it, so it’s very exciting. Zack is always such a ball of energy."
As for what it's been like working with the director - and bear in mind that Affleck is an accomplished filmmaker with the likes of Argo and The Town behind him - the Gone Girl star added, "Zack has more energy than anybody I know. He works as hard as anybody. He’s in the gym in the morning and storyboards every single shot, which is a huge amount of work. So everybody knows what’s going on. He’s got enormous visual talent. I stand there and he sets up shots. We do the blocking and…I see a shot from Zack and I think, I never would have thought of that. He is so visually inventive so that’s quite pleasant. Action movies take a lot of days and involve a lot of stunts and visual effects—that combination and the story has its own challenges but I’m enjoying it. What I’ve learned from Zack in the movie are the cutting-edge visual effects—what we’re able to do now and how you integrate that into a story. He’s very gifted."
Of course, many fans are hoping that Ben Affleck will ultimately end up directing and starring in his own Batman movie, but that likely depends on how this and Justice League end up playing out. With the actor heading back to Detroit now to continue shooting the Man of Steel follow-up, we likely won't hear much from him for quite some time. Annoyingly, no one asked him about a solo movie or Snyder's planned superhero ensemble, but to see all he did say about his roe as the Caped Crusader, be sure to visit out Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice section by clicking here.
