Black Adam came in just below its domestic opening weekend estimates with $67M, but the movie managed to take in $73M from 76 international box office markets for a $140M global total.
Warner Bros./New Line's DC Comics adventure has now claimed the No. 1 spot in all U.S. markets, and most of its overseas locations.
The majority of critics were pretty tough on Black Adam (it has now dropped to 40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but its 90% audience score tells a different story when it comes to how cinemagoers have responded to the movie. There seems to be a perception that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's superhero debut is underperforming, but this is actually a pretty solid start.
Whether it's able to maintain its footing in the weeks to come remains to be seen, of course, as word-of-mouth will likely be a key factor in Black Adam's continuing success.
Spoilers ahead.
Producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia recently suggested that work on a sequel may already be underway (let's hope they're not counting their chickens here), and if we do get a follow-up, there's a decent chance it will feature a face-off between Johnson's Man in Black and Henry Cavill's Superman, who shows up in the movie/s mid-credits scene.

"From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action adventure Black Adam. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods— and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world."
Johnson stars alongside Aldis Hodge (City on a Hill, One Night in Miami) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life, Rush Hour 3) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express, The Mummy) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell (Voyagers, Trinkets) as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui (A Million Little Things) as Amon, and Pierce Brosnan (the Mamma Mia! and James Bond franchises) as Dr. Fate.
Black Adam is now in theaters.
