The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe did change... just not in the way Dwayne Johnson was hoping!
Despite Black Adam's disappointing theatrical run, Johnson seemed confident that the planned sequel and spin-offs (it's come to light that TV shows were also in early development) would still move forward at Warner Bros., but it's become increasingly clear over the past week or so that recently appointed DC Studios co-heads Peter Safran and James Gunn are intent on rebooting this universe, and the actor has been left with no choice but to throw in the towel.
“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling,” Johnson wrote in a statement. “However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”
The multiverse mention is interesting. Matt Reeves' The Batman and Todd Phillips' Joker (and their upcoming sequels) are not set in the main DCU, so perhaps Gunn and co. are planning to develop more of those type of projects?

Earlier tonight, Zachary Levi shared a Tweet which certainly seemed to suggest that he will be staying on as Shazam, so maybe he simply hasn't checked his emails yet? In all seriousness, it is looking like Gunn and Safran are cleaning house here, so don't be surprised if Gal Gadot is the next to post a statement to social media.
