BLACK PANTHER Exclusive: Writers Explain How Chadwick Boseman's Portrayal Inspired SINS OF THE KING

Serial Box and Marvel have been teaming up to deliver a universe of comic book stories and characters in audible form for the past couple of years. The team initially began with Thor: Metal Gods, and Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire and Black Widow: Bad Blood were both quick to follow.

2021 kicked off the newest series, Black Panther: Sins of the King, which explores the relationship between T'Challa and his father, as well as the dissonance between his learned history of Wakanda and the truth left out of the history books.

The audio-comic was in the midst of production when news of Boseman's passing came to light. However, when we spoke to the writing team, they admitted that the actor's unparalleled portrayal of the regal superhero had already influenced both the story and the character itself even before his death.

During our chat with Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due, we dived into the events of Black Panther: Sins of the King and spoke about Boseman's influence on the story. The writers also shared their thoughts on where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed post-Boseman.

The below chat with South African writer Mohale Mashigo focuses on how she approached the character of Shuri, her thoughts on the big-screen Black Panther and the general MCU, and of course, how Chadwick Boseman helped inspire the writing for T'Challa's character in the newest series.

Do you guys believe that comic characters should be inspired by the actors who play them or the other way around? In any case, Boseman's performances as T'Challa in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame definitely made an impression on many comic creatives.

Check out our exclusive clip of the second episode from Marvel's Black Panther: Sins of the King via the Inner Child Podcast player below, along with a synopsis for the new series. Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual spot!

The Black Panther has a terrible secret. T'Challa strives for excellence—to be a fair and worthy king, a global citizen, an Avenger. But when an army of undead threatens Wakanda, The Black Panther turns to his long-lost father in the fight against his most lethal opponent yet—the demons of his past.

I don't mind comic characters being inspired by actors, especially when they are part of the culturel success.

Also, I have the feeling I blink twice and ten new podcasts appear. Don't work too hard, because I can't keep up.

@bkmeijer - It's been so crazy, working hard to get all the articles caught up. Thanks for staying tuned, always appreciated.

@LiteraryJoe - I try to, but its becoming increasingly harder now that the podcasts aren't numbered anymore (more of a personal thing, so I'm not trying to pick here). Having the shorter podcasts works much better though.

@bkmeijer - Yeah, I'm trying to find a good balance. It feels like feedback shows that CBM readers prefer shorter, but regular podcast listeners like longer? I'm still trying to nail down a proper method, so I definitely appreciate your feedback. Much needed haha.

@LiteraryJoe - yeah, I forgot about regular pidcast listeners. I guess dividing a podcast in 2 or 3 chapters (or topics or whatever) so to speak can work

@bkmeijer - I was trying to stop overwhelming people with long timestamps, but that seems to be more important as a YouTube method. I figured early 2021 would be a good time to test things!
