There remains a lot of uncertainty around the theatrical landscape as we head further into 2021, but with the COVID-19 vaccine rolling out across the globe, the future is slowly starting to look brighter.

We've seen a handful of delays already, though there's hope that the summer could play out relatively similar to a "normal" year. Many will still be wary of returning to packed screenings, of course, but if the movies are enticing enough...well, that's going to help the box office in a big way.

Black Widow fits into that category, but will it hit the big screen on May 7th as planned?

During The Walt Disney Company’s 2021 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed plans for the Marvel Studios movie to hit that date.

"Next up is Marvel's highly-anticipated spy thriller, Black Widow, featuring an all-star cast that includes Oscar Nominee Scarlett Johansson currently set for release in theaters on May 7. I know Marvel fans have been looking forward to this film for a long time and I promise you it's well worth the wait. It's absolutely fantastic."

Things can change, but at this point, a Disney+ release of any sort seems highly unlikely. A delay remains on the table, but there's still two months to go until May 7th, and theaters could be up and running as normal(ish) by then.

We'll have to wait and see, but as updates go, this is definitely a positive one.

Some people were suggesting that Black Widow would be delayed again after Raya & The Last Dragon flopped at the BO (it made half of what Tom & Jerry made at the B.O. last weekend). I think Disney knows more people will see Black Widow in theaters, and even if it underperforms domestically, they’ll make their money back internationally and through streaming.

Also I don’t think Kevin Feige can afford any more delays.

@santoanderson - The irony is that those who don't trust movie theaters are still not going to go no matter how big Black Widow is as a character. They'll wait for streaming. So doing a simultaneous release via theaters and Disney+ would be best for the company and consumers who are avoiding crowded places
