BLACK WIDOW Star Scarlett Johansson Is Also "Pushing" Marvel Studios For A Female-Led Team-Up Movie

Black Widow may have died in Avengers: Endgame, but Scarlett Johansson has now confirmed that she's among the actresses pushing Marvel Studios to develop what sounds an awful lot like an A-Force movie...

There was a lot to discuss after watching Avengers: Endgame, but one moment, in particular, which really stuck with fans was when the Marvel Cinematic Universe's female superheroes assembled to square off with Thanos. Since then, speculation about an A-Force (the all-female team of Avengers) movie has run rampant.

Well, following recent remarks from both Captain Marvel star Brie Larson and WandaVision's Elizabeth Olsen, Black Widow lead Scarlett Johansson is the latest actress to make it clear that she's "pushing" Marvel Studios to consider making this movie.

"I don’t know what my future is in that world. Obviously, it’s a little more opaque for my character," Johansson said, referring to Black Widow's demise in Avengers: Endgame. "But that group of actresses is so incredibly powerful and when they come together, it’s explosive and unstoppable. So yes, I’m pushing for that. I think audiences want it and I’m definitely one of them."

At this point, it's going to be hard for Kevin Feige and company to ignore these remarks, not to mention the clear desire from fans to see the movie become a reality in the near future.

Whether it will actually happen hinges on what Marvel Studios has planned for Phase 4, but with plans for the Young Avengers seemingly coming together, it appears there's a chance we could see multiple teams of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the MCU moving forward.

I’m down with it. The women have been some of the standouts in the last couple of years, especially The Wasp

I get it but just give most of them solo movies for god's sake — pair them up at most like Thor Ragnarok or Ant-Man and the Wasp. They can crossover with each other and the more minor ones like Mantis that wouldn't get solos can feature in someone else's.

People keep acting like it’s a team movie. But to me it’s an event film. It’s not an all girl’s club trying to take on some villain without giving their friends a call. It’s these women find themselves in a situation where they only have each other to lean on. Something like “Marvel’s Escape from the Negative Zone”.

This is really not their job, no offense. Let Kevin decide the slate. He's done a pretty alright job so far. Man must have a million things to do he don't need to be hassled.

@WakandanQueen -

That shot gets me every time

How they haven't greenlit a DBZ movie based on Captain Marvel's 3rd act alone still confuses me

@OmegaDaGrodd - that's easy . Western attempts translate poorly from anime/manga based material which makes me terrified for Cowboy Bebop but i'm hopeful.... and i'd say matrix revolution (even tho bad) the final scenes with Smith and Neo had a better feel for a dbz film compared to Marvel imo

I think female-led is the key. It shouldn't be to the exclusion of male characters, just predominately female and certainly female-led, the inverse of what the Avengers have been so far. Ironically, the most female-strong and gender balanced team in Marvel was the X-Men for many years.

This would be based on something that was cancelled. Instead of using that movie slot to tell a great classic story.

What Scarlett Johansson didn't mention is that she'd like to play every female character by herself.

Hmm... You've got Captain Marvel (who'd need more/better development as a character first, IMO), The Wasp (eh, could work... I think people care about her as much as they do about Ant Man: not much), Valkyrie (I, for one, profoundly hate that character)... soon, Jane Thor (which could be a nice addition). I dunno, unless they build up to it magnificently, I wouldn't rush it or it'd feel super forced. Let it happen organically, that it makes sense for all these female characters to take the lead of a female team. Otherwise, it'll be as hamfisted as that sequence in Endgame was (heck, even some hardcore feminists I know found it forced and undeserved)

They could bring her back for it. Nobody is truly dead in the MCU now that they can time travel.

Forcing feminazzi ideology doesnt work, the all female ghostbusters is a prove of it. THe true feminine empowerement is more similar to Wonder Woman movie, it is not forced, it is fluid and natural.

I found that scene when the women all join together in Endgame a bit cringe. Not because it was women, just because it was so on the nose. There was no real reason for it so it took me out of the film.

I much preferred the "she's not alone" scene between Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Okoye in Infinity War. It was just a more natural embodiment of female togetherness and friendship i thought. It was built on character development, rather than the endgame scene which was a gimmick.

It will be tough to make a female only MCU movie that isn’t gimmicky. Not impossible but tough.

@James695 - I just didn’t understand how all the women knew to go to that exact spot at that exact time. 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣🤣

The concept of "Women Only" or "Men Only" in enterteiment is stupid and fascist. It rememeber me to “Whites Only” and “Colored Only”. Leftist actresses and actors are transforming in what they supposed want to fight (two sides of the same coin).

Tonic24k - 10/15/2019, 10:30 AM
@hsanjose - It's called diversity. And an all-women movie would be diverse in the grand scheme of things. Considering most entertainment history has put the white male in the spotlight.

And for the record, I'm a white male.
