BLACK WIDOW Star Scarlett Johansson Reveals How She Learned About The Hero's AVENGERS: ENDGAME Demise

Ahead of Black Widow's (hopeful) release in theaters this November, star Scarlett Johansson has revealed how she learned of the character's shocking fate in last year's Avengers: Endgame. Check it out!

While it's been common knowledge for a while that Black Widow would be set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, that made it no less shocking when former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff was killed off during the events of Avengers: Endgame last year.

Now, it's beginning to look like the character's solo movie will primarily revolve around her passing the "Black Widow" mantle to Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, but actress Scarlett Johansson has now revealed (via Digital Spy) how she learned of Black Widow's shocking fate in the 2019 ensemble.

"Kevin called me and said, 'Look, obviously we're at a place where there's going to be big sacrifices and big losses'. We had all anticipated that. So it didn't seem out of character," Johansson explained. "It kind of made sense to me, I guess, even though I was sad about it. But after I hung up the phone I remember I thought, 'Okay, I guess it's me.'"

"And it took me a minute to process it," she concluded. "It was bittersweet, but it was not a shock."

It was definitely a shock for fans, and of the original six Avengers, only three - Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye - remain. However, with Clint Barton about to hand his bow to Kate Bishop, Jane Foster preparing to wield Mjolnir, and She-Hulk incoming, it feels like we're witnessing a changing of the guard.

@TheWalkingCuban - yeah. I guessed this back in infinity war. Obviously that whole loved one sacrifice isnt gonna be a one off thing and the heroes are gonna need to do this to get the stone. Its clearly gonna involve the two avengers who didnt have solo films by then and have the most connection between them. And its clearly not the guy you built up a whole arc around reuniting with his family.

@Origame - good guessing, I didn’t know what to expect

@TheWalkingCuban - Most supposed Endgame plot holes don’t Impress me much, and this isn’t exactly a plot hole either, but in hindsight it does stand out that Tony and Nebula both knew that Gamora somehow died when Thanos retrieved the Soul Stone, and Mantis flat out said that Thanos grieved about it (so it stands to reason that this super-powerful being *didnt* want her to die), and yet they still picked the two powerless Avengers to go deal with whatever killed Gamora.

@Chewtoy - see what I do is I don’t think about what’s going to happen in a movie, I literally just watch it. So people around me are like “duh, saw it from a mile away” I’m like “MAAAAN THAT WAS CRAZY!!!” It’s more fun.

@TheWalkingCuban - Hence why I said “In hindsight”.

I had a great time seeing her journey throughout the MCU. I think her solo movie will really deepen and enrich her arc.

I'd feel better about Black Widow's heroic sacrifice in Endgame, had Gamora (from the past) not been allowed to basically override her death from Infinity War. I would've liked to have seen more of Natasha's story, but hopefully the upcoming solo movie will be enough. Plus I'm sure ScarJo is happy to move on with her career, just like Evans and RDJ.
