Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson recently joined Gwyneth Paltrow on The Goop Podcast (via Variety), and the conversation quickly turned to their shared history with Marvel Studios.
They first appeared on screen together as Natasha Romanoff and Pepper Potts, respectively, in 2010's Iron Man 2 and reports at the time claimed the two actors clashed on set. After Paltrow brought it up, Johansson responded by saying, "You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You could’ve been awful. I was so out of my comfort zone on that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you had established such deep friendships."
Paltrow added that she was "psyched" to be joined by Johansson in the sequel before the Black Widow actress chimed in to say how much she also enjoyed having another woman around prior to working on The Avengers, a movie that "was like a big sausage party."
As for a possible MCU return, Johansson immediately dismissed the notion.
"I’m done," she said. "Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience."
As for whether Paltrow feels the same way after getting to suit up as Rescue in Avengers: Endgame, it sounds like she's also done playing a superhero. "I think so. I mean, I didn’t die so they can always ask me. A 64-year-old Pepper Potts? How great."
While it's unlikely we'll see Rescue again, chances are Pepper could show up for at least a cameo in an upcoming project like Ironheart or Armor Wars.
In Johansson's case, there was once some chatter online about her returning to produce a future Marvel Studios movie or TV show, but that's seemingly fallen by the wayside (we're also not buying those rumours about a Disney+ series with Chris Evans' Captain America).
