BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Features The MCU's Most Emotional Mid-Credits Scene - SPOILERS

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only features one mid-credits scene, and as long as you're okay with major spoilers, you can find out what happens right here...

By MarkCassidy - Nov 10, 2022 09:11 PM EST

Marvel Studios typically utilizes post-credits stingers to set-up what's to come in future movies, and while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's mid-credits sequence does follow suit to some extent, it stands out as an organic conclusion to this story - as opposed to a blatantly tacked-on or out-of-place teaser for the next MCU release.

It also happens to be one of the most poignant scenes in a movie full of emotional moments.

Major spoilers from this point on!

As you've no doubt heard by now, Wakanda Forever ends with the new Black Panther, Shuri (Letitia Wright), making her way a beach in Haiti to burn her funeral garb and finally allow herself to make peace with her brother's death. Then, in the mid-credits scene, we see Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) join her with a young boy (Divine Love Konadu-Sun) by her side.

The lad is introduced as Toussaint, and we soon learn that he is the son of T’Challa and Nakia. As Shuri chats with her nephew, he tells her that his real name is T'Challa. This obviously suggests that the boy will eventually grow to take on the mantle of Black Panther, and possibly even rule Wakanda as king.

T'Challa's legacy will live on, not only through his sister and the rest of his people, but his own son.

It's a powerful scene, and feels more connected - thematically and from a narrative standpoint - to the movie that preceded it than these stingers usually do because it actually addresses some lingering questions. For example, we now know why Nakia left Wakanda before the funeral, and what Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) was going to tell Shuri about her late brother before they were interrupted by Namor.

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

Somehow managed to hold it together the whole movie until this exact moment. Final line of dialog absolutely [frick]ing killed me

@OmegaDaGrodd - I almost lost it multiple times throughout the film, definitely were multiple punches in the gut regarding honoring Chadwick.

@HeavyMetal4Life - loved, loved, loved the movie. Actually felt a lot of emotion from Huerta as he was discussing Talocan’s parallel evolution to Wakanda. TBH, this scene from the article didn’t really grab me as much as it did some of you guys but that doesn’t detract one solitary iota from the phenomenal delivery of Wakanda Forever

94% audience score just posted on RT. Keep in mind BP 1 had a 79% audience score.

Such a great movie. Inspiring and creative!! I especially love how they paid tribute with the car commercials. So brave.

This was a great movie. The writing, directing, acting, they were all great. Some really terrific performances (Wright, Bassett, and Tenoch). What an emotional film, and serious and mature too (like the first film). The tributes to T'Challa were great and very deep, this film certainly did him justice and beautiful in how it built off his legacy and paid tribute to Chadwick.

I'll also add that Namor was an absolute beast and force to be reckoned with, what a great addition to the MCU. Looking forward to seeing where he pops up next, since he is playing the long game now.

I need to rewatch this and No Way Home again to see which is my favorite film of phase 4, but this was definitely the best-written film of the phase. And with regards to the first BP, I think its on the same level in terms of quality, but I'm giving the edge right now to the first film, largely because of what Chadwick brought to the role and film (and how that played off of Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger).

@HeavyMetal4Life - I think this was the strongest narratively of the films from Phase 4….but I’d be lying if I said No Way Home wasn’t way more entertaining and one of my favorite moviegoing experiences in years.

@HeavyMetal4Life - loved how the real villain in this was the constant unseen threat of the greed of outsider nations to plunder what was not rightfully theirs. Huerta was a revelation breakout (as was Bassett (though we all knew that she could deliver)). Loved the barbs thrown at Okoye as tension relief to a VERY heavy script

@HeavyMetal4Life - this is my favorite over No way home, mostly because I find no way home first half before the apartment scene too be really meh.

I just finished watching, oh my God what an emotional ride. Never got choked up watching a Marvel movie. And so many times too. No spoilers from me but I felt they really, really honored Chadwick Boseman and his legacy perfectly. And Namor was Thanos like villain in terms of a well crafted antagonist.

@Kadara - preach buddy, preach
SauronthePower
SauronthePower - 11/11/2022, 5:30 AM
@Kadara - as an antagonist, completely agree but, where I think Coogler REALLY hit it out of the park was inncrafting a story where Namor really wasn’t the villain. The villain remqined the unseen threat of outsider invasion and plunder. The scene where Namor explains his origin to Shuri REALLY laid bare the emotion of both nations’ ultimate fears

@GhostDog - my theater was d&@n near riotous on a couple of occasions. You could hear a fly burp in the final, pre-credits tribute. 4 stars, without question

Spidey91 - 11/10/2022, 10:24 PM
yeah, that last bit finally did it, and not just me, not a single nose was dry in that room.
the movie overall is nothing short of a triumph. it had everything staked against it: Boseman's passing, delays, rewrites, on-set injuries, Wright's controversy, the overall disappointment of Phase 4....and yet they pulled it off, Coogler and all the madlads at Marvel f*cking pulled it off, this is one of their greatest achievements.
this sh*t was firing on all cylinders, and even the little nitpicks I have are but droplets in an ocean of greatness.
Rest easy Chad, these guys have your back.

I now see what Ryan Coogler meant when he said he gave this movie his all. I loved Iron Heart. And I'm a diehard Iron Man fan. I actually choked up the moment she popped up at first because it was the first time we have seen an Iron Man esque hero since Endgame. But the seen with T'Challa junior hit me right in the gut.

Idk why but I felt like this movie left blue balls. I kept waiting for a real moment to burst into tears. But it didn’t happen. It was good but I’m actually a little disappointed. I wanted more.

@DarkArrow19 - Thank you! Someone feels the same. I liked it, but it just kind of plateaued mid way through. I was a bit underwhelmed. We'll see how it is on second viewing.

@MyCoolYoung - that was a great one.

The best for me was M’Baku and Shuri. Namor and Shuri a close second.

@MyCoolYoung - For me the most powerful conversation was when Queen Ramonda basically exposed France for trying to steal Wakandan Tech and then brought forth their black ops team who got captured and told them that was mercy. Going forward they wouldn't be met with kindness. Angela Bassett killed that scene and the scene where she demoted Okoye.

MyCoolYoung - 11/10/2022, 11:58 PM
@GhostDog - that was a great moment. Coogler really knocked these moments out the park
