CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Rumor Reveals Why We Haven't Seen Sam Wilson Since FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER

The latest Captain America: Brave New World rumour sheds new light on Sam Wilson's dynamic with President Ross, while also explaining why we haven't seen the hero since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Captain America: Brave New World promises to put Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson front and centre as the MCU's new Star Spangled Avenger. Unlike his predecessor, Steve Rogers, Sam has no superpowers, and we saw how much John Walker struggled before taking the Super Soldier Serum.

With The Leader and the Serpent Society set to take aim at Cap, Sam could find himself in serious trouble, especially if the rumours about General (and soon-to-be-President) "Thunderbolt" Ross transforming into Red Hulk are correct.

However, before tackling any of that, the former Falcon will need to deal with...politics?

Similar to both his and Steve Rogers' comic book counterparts, it sounds like the Oval Office will have an active role in how Captain America protects his nation. Unfortunately for this Avenger, it won't be too different from how Steve was used as part of the USO during his earliest days wielding the shield.

"To put it simply, he’s been benched," a reliable scooper says of why we haven't seen Sam since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. "President Ross thinks Sam’s time as 'Captain America' is better suited for publicity, while Sam KNOWS he’s meant to be in the field."

They go on to say, "And that is just the tip of the iceberg to their conflict..."

Considering the fact The Falcon was a member of the original Cap's Secret Avengers, we're not exactly surprised President Ross - a major supporter of the Sokovia Accords - has little to no interest in sending Sam into the field. It's possible Ross will decide the best way to deal with this particular nuisance is to become a Hulk, though it's previously been suggested he'll undergo that procedure courtesy of The Leader due to a life-threatening heart condition.

The movie stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, and Liv Tyler. Julius Onah directs from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though he's also believed to have taken a pass at it.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.

Yeah I get it , even though sam did go against the sokovia accords that was out of loyalty to Steve who was extremely jaded with the world govts by that point

Sam is still somewhat of a loyal soldier kinda like rhodey

@ShimmyShimmyYA - when you say loyal soldier how do you mean?

@Slotherin - he still identifies as a US veteran , he wasn’t as jaded with the whole thing as Steve is

He’s not rhodey dedicated but not Steve level of rogue

@ShimmyShimmyYA - he was pretty willing to follow Cap's lead all the same.
I think he's like Steve not a blind patriot or rigid to authority and believes more in following his moral compass and perhaps with that emphasis some have in fighting enemies both foreign and domestic with America's interest less so than government direction.

Personally I think one of his defining character moments in Winter Soldier is when Cap says Falcon got out of fighting for a reason and he responds with "Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason than that to get back in."

Cuz it would be out of place for him to show up Thor 4, she hulk, moon knight or Dr. S MVOM.

@Kadara - The only possible call would have been from the Prez and Fony-Rhodey was running that. Getting him there would have been stretching things way too far.

@Lokiwasright - he really had no place in any of those conflicts or a time to show up. @Kadara makes a good mention of Secret Invasion but @KWilly has a good defence for it.

Why would we need a explanation for this? It's not like Steve showed up in everythingm

@Taonrey - I've always hated that people demand explanations for where other heroes are and why they aren't helping their friends in their solo movies.

The MCU was originally created to be like the comics. Meaning sometimes other characters can guest star in a solo character's movie. No one ever questions that in the comics. No one ever wonders why Iron Man and Thor aren't showing up to help Captain America fight Red Skull.

So why does it have to be like that in the movies?

@CorndogBurglar - "No one ever wonders why Iron Man and Thor aren't showing up to help Captain America fight Red Skull."

Eeehhh... I do.

Maybe not necessarily in that exact example, but if you have some really powerful superfriends, why wouldn't you call them when there is a serious threat? Why risk other people's lives for no reason just to do it all by yourself?

There are many examples of this in both Marvel and DC movies and comics, never has made any sense to me, there should be something that explained why they are not just giving a call or sending a message to their powerful friends.

I just watched Secret Invasion, Fury created the Avengers initiative to stop threats like the one that is shown there, but he just says "it's my fight, I'll just do it by myself", or some stupid sh*t like that which makes absolutely no sense, and the viewers know it's just because Marvel can't pay Hemsworth, Larson or Cumberbatch for a big tv show cameo where they kick all the skrull's green asses in five minutes and the story would be finito in episode 1 or 2, but they should ask for the writers to find a much better reason to explain why Fury doesn't call any avenger to help him stop a global threat, maybe that they are fighting another huge supervillain in a different planet or dimension, idk, just something better than "Ah, I don't need any help, will just do it all by myself, this is my fight, this is personal", and then if you fail the whole planet is doomed for not sending a simple whatsapp/telegram message or whatever the Avengers use to talk with each others.

Feels like I haven't seen Sam Wilson since Endgame. His character felt a bit off on FatWS.

Some scenes felt like Mackie's version of Falcon we have gotten to know over the years, but overall he was kind of a downer in the show. They kinda changed up his character to fit the particular political tone of the show. I understand what they were going for, but it just didn't land.

Not for me anyways.

@dracula - both this and Wandavision tried to make the audience sympathize with individuals terrorizing civilians.
That line “they’ll never know what you sacrificed” doesn’t work when Wanda pretty much enclaved a town for weeks

There is a big difference between a sympathetic villain and a villain being the victim

He's a Skrull?

It doesn't matter anyway,I don't think many give a shit about The Falcon pretending to be Captain America.

Steve Rogers will be back either during Secret Wars or the MCU reboot.

Starting to feel bad for Sam that he's gonna have to deal with politics again after he was also deemed not to be fit by the government back in TFATWS.

But I am looking forward to both characters' conflicts, just to see how Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford play against each other.

"Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024."

The last episode of FATWS was April 2021. Over three years will have passed since we last saw Sam and Bucky. General audiences have lost interest with the passage of so much time.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/5/2023, 9:23 PM
@GeneralZod - This is a damn good point that doesn't get mentioned enough.

Marvel is so busy spending time and resources on characters and side stories that people don't give a shit about that they are leaving other characters hanging for years on end before we ever see them again. It's kind of crazy.

Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 9/6/2023, 9:33 AM
@kazuma - If this rumor is factual (and who knows) then yes. But they've already revisited this in TFATWS, with John Walker acting primarily as a publicity figurehead as the new Captain America, and chaffing under the PR requirements. It would make sense that, if Sam's accepted as the new Cap, that he would have the same PR expectations.
