Hayley Atwell Seemingly Confirms Her Reprisal In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Even though it's somewhat inevitable, especially if the sequel will include flashbacks, the Captain America: The First Avenger Peggy Carter actress has basically confirmed her return in the sequel!

Although the subtitle of the forthcoming Captain America sequel already alludes to the return of James Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, a deleted scene from Marvel The Avengers also hinted at the return of another 40s-era ally of Steve Rogers. With that in mind, it's no surprise what the actress behind Peggy Carter, Hayley Atwell, had to offer when Bleeding Cool approached her at the premiere of her new film, The Sweeney.

“I can’t say yet because it hasn’t been officially released, and Marvel are very protective of their franchise.”

The Winter Soldier co-director Anthony Russo cleverly dodged a question in regards to the sequel exploring “dark” flashbacks. And with Peggy Carter still “active” in modern times, we'll likely see her in flashbacks, and/or modern times. And if modern times, we'll either see an older actress behind her portrayal or an aged Hayley Atwell, with the use of Hollywood makeup and special effects. Anyhow, Marvel has also yet to “officially release” which actress will nab a new female addition to the cast, believed to be Peggy Carter's niece, Sharon Carter.

Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continues his affiliation with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. With an expected return from James 'Bucky' Barnes (Sebastian Stan), actor Anthony Mackie is also set to star. And Anthony & Joe Russo (“Community,” “You, Me and Dupree”) take over directorial duties from Joe Johnston, who helmed the first film. And “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4, 2014.

Do what they did for Carla Gugino in Watchmen. Just put makeup on Haley Atwell and you have an aged Peggy.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 Agreed, we need a proper interpretation of that dynamic on-screen. It was handled pretty well in the Ultimate Avengers animated movie.

"political thriller"

Wow. That has all the potential in the world to suck. Captain America is my favorite hero, but Marvel hasn't done very well with the character over the past 35 years. He's VERY popular with those of us that like him, but from time to time the liberals running the MCU can't help but bash him and make him seem week or stupid in his adoration for God and Country. Another tired storyline is the "Government has done me wrong..." story. I would really like to see them stay away from that crap. It can be compelling in small doses, particularly when it pits Cap against politicians that are corrupt and no longer serving the public, but it tends to make him seem whiny and weak.

Cap is a great hero because he embodies the best of America. He was transformed into a perfect physical specimen, but he was already perfect in his moral code and the lack of malice or prejudice in his heart. There are great scenes all through the comics over the past 40+ years showing this. I hope they don't screw it up.

They've done pretty well, so far. They seemed to realize that Cap's bump in popularity of late is based on the Ultimate comics. There they've gone back to a BA soldier that always does the right thing and always seems to have a plan. He never says die and knows that he can get anything done if he trys hard enough.

(steps off soapbox)

I would like to see Hayley Atwell come back to reprise her role as Peggy Carter. Either flashback scenes or a scene where Steve meets the older Peggy. As far as casting for Sharon Cater, I would like Marvel Studio's to cast Imogen Poots as Sharon, but I wouldn't mind if Marvel Studio's casted Anna Kendrick as Sharon.

Pretty sure she'll be in flashback scenes... Or a Peggy with lots of makeup etc to look like an old lady... But then, why go through all that trouble? Just hire an old lady!

Her playing her great niece Sharon would be the stupidest shit ever. I hope they don't do that. Can't wait til this movie though! Its my most anticipated Phase 2 movie next to Avengers 2!

If you rmember frm the Cap Avengers opening it says she was still alive and it was hinted at before that there was a cut scene involving her in modern day. I bet she mainly comes back in flashbacks (there are years missing from ww2 because of the montage) but i think its possible we will see a reunion.

Wouldn't mind seeing her as Sharon just change the hair, remove the lipstick, and drop the accent along with wearing the more modern sheild catsuits, if she's a good enough actress, which im sure she is she could definately pull it off
