The Marvels: The Musical? Not quite, but we might be in store for at least one song and dance number in the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel!

Several reliable (or semi-reliable, at least) internet scoopers have weighed in on a rumor that's been doing the rounds online, and all seem to agree that Captain Marvel 2 will indeed feature some "musical elements." We don't have many details, but from what we can gather, Carol Danvers (and possibly the other heroes) will visit a planet where the population can only "communicate through song."

Marvel Studios has included a few musical sequences in earlier projects (Eternals, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel, for example), but a character or characters belting out a full song/dance number would be a first. It may seem like an odd creative choice, but we have seen the studio take more risks of late (to varying degrees of success), and we know Larson can carry a tune!

The Academy Award-winner actually began her career as a pop singer, releasing the 2009 single “She Said.” Larson was later given the opportunity to showcase her talent in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World when she performed as Envy Adams.

As with every other rumor, best not to put too much stock in this until we learn more.

Plot details for the The Marvels are still under wraps, but we know Larson will be be joined by Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. British actress Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Velvet Buzzsaw) is on board as the main villain, who is rumored to be a gender-swapped take on Kree warrior Ael-Dan. In addition, Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that he will appear as Nick Fury.

Nia DaCosta, who also helmed the Ms. Marvel season finale's post-credit scene, will direct from a script by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell. The sequel is set to fly into theaters next year.
