It’s well documented that the female stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came together to pitch an all-female Marvel film, but nothing official has been released to suggest that we may see this come to fruition. However, that hasn’t stopped the stars of the MCU from continuing to show their interest in such a film or for other female-led movies. The latest Marvel star to express such an interest is Nebula herself, Karen Gillan.

“It is something all of us Marvel actresses have talked about and think would be an amazing project,” the Guardians of the Galaxy star said, before explaining how she hopes next year’s Captain Marvel will lead to more female-led films from Marvel. “It is exciting because we have ‘Captain Marvel’ coming out, with Brie Larson in it, and that will be a big celebration for all of us. Because that is the first female led Marvel movie. Hopefully that can lead to more female ensemble Marvel films.”

Finally, Gillan expressed her hope that the incredible success of Black Panther will also help open up more opportunities in Marvel films and the movie industry as a whole:

“The success of ‘Black Panther’ has said a lot about our industry and appetites and what audiences want. It is always exciting when that happens, because then it’s like, ‘OK, what is going to come from this?’ It is going to open up so many opportunities for other people and so it is exciting.”

While Captain Marvel will be arriving in theaters next year, it will likely be a few years, at least, before we see another female driven film in the MCU. Thankfully, fans of Marvel’s wonderful female characters — like Nebula, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Okoye — can expect to see them in action when Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters this month.
