For years, Mera has been a side character to many of Aquaman's comic stories, however, it's finally her time. DC Comics is granting the fans of Mera her very own comic series, Mera: Queen of Atlantis.
The six-issue limited series will be written by someone familiar with both the characters of Aquaman and Mera, Dan Abnett, who will be joined by Lan Medina in providing art. The cover for the first issue will be presented by Nicola Scott.
Mera: Queen of Atlantis will most likely be separate from the current ongoing storyline in Aquaman that has followed the King of Atlantis losing power in Atlantis. With Arthur Curry presumed dead by the public and stuck inside Atlantis, Mera sought to remain on the surface where she would merge with the Justice League.
Following the first issue's description, it's apparent she will be dealing with the surface world and be crowned Queen of Atlantis. The villain known as Ocean Master is also set to return, which will be a surprise to most as he hasn't been seen since the beginning of the Rebirth title from last year. The full synopsis:
As the brutal Atlantean Civil War rages, Mera must keep the peace between the surface world and Atlantis as its newly anointed queen in exile. But when Aquaman's brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master, learns of his homeland's fate, he'll stop at nothing to return to Atlantis as its king and savior!
Mera: Queen of Atlantis #1 is set to release on Feb. 28, 2018.
