In this article i will bring to light 6 characters that are either upcoming (will be featured more) or are about to appear in the MCU who are actually "inspired" by DC.

Thanos and Darkseid
The first one I want to highlight is Thanos and Darkseid

Thanos 1st appearance february 1972

darkseid 1st appearance February 1971

Thanos who as we all know will become and more prominent in the MCU and has already appeared in post credits for avengers and is the overlord villain in Guardians of the galaxy and is rumoured to be the villian in avengers 3.

Thanos essentially is inspired by darkseid

Darkseid in case you dont know is a superman villain who is rumoured to be the main protagnoist in the upcoming justice league movie. Much like how Thanos spends his time looking for the infinity gauntle, darkseid is obsessed with the Anti-Life Equation

according to Jim starlin originally Thanos was more like Metron (another DC character)

but someone at marvel told him that
"If you're going to steal one of the New Gods, at least rip off Darkseid, the really good one!"

and just like that the thanos you know was born.

Hawkeye- Green Arrow
The Next comparison is between Between Hawkeye and Green arrow
Green arrow 1st appearance November 1941

Hawkeye 1st appearance september 1964

Hakeye in avengers

Hawkeye played by Jeremy renner in cinema and has appearred in Avengers and will appear in avengers 2 and has a potential solo movie in the works

Its basically another character with the bow and arrow, skilled in hand to hand combat and has arrows that uses technology to do all sorts of things. Its very much a rip-off of green arrow.

Quicksilver and The Flash
The next comparison is quick Silver and the flash

The Flash 1st appearance january 1940

Quicksilver 1st appearance March 1964

The abilities are distinct and similar right down to the lightning streak also being copied, its also worth noting that inm 1940 dc also had a flash villian called quicksilver who possesed superspeed and was a villain for the flash. All that was ignored when quicksilver was created and the other quicksilver ended up having to change his name for fear of confusion. But quicksilver is essentially a flash inspired character who also took the name of one of his villains.

Ant Man - The Atom

My next  one is Ant Man and the Atom

The Atom (DC Comics) 1st appearance Oct 1940

Ant man (Marvel) 1st Appearance sept 1962

As we all know ant man has had various production problems and is due for a big debut next year in the MCU, however its worth mentioning that the original shrinking hero actually came from dc.

The original atom was basically a short guy with no powers who was a symbol (like batman in the nolan movies) for what all diminutive guys could achieve.

However In 1961, the atom got relaunched with Ray palmer (also a scientist) with the ability to reduce and shrink his size and density by altering his molecular structure.
That obviously got someone at marvels attention as less than a year later we got Ant man.

Dr Fate and Dr Strange
Doctor fate- 1st Appearance  May 1940
Doctor strange July 1963

As we all know Marvel are in the process of casting doctor strange for a movie in 2016. However there was an orignal sorceror supreme in Doctor Fate.
Both these two doctors are sorceror supremes and draw their powers from amulets and mystical capes too.

The Vision and Martian manhunter
Martian Manhunter 1st Appearance November 1955

The Vision 1st Appearance October 1968

both these two play similar roles to the teams they are in justice league and avengers.  they also have similar powers with the flight, strenght, Phasing, lasers fired from head. And being a bit mysterious and trying to understand Humanity

Bonus comparison- Justice league- The avengers
I also included a bonus comparison which is

Justice league and avengers
Justice league 1st appearance february 1960

The Avengers 1st appearance september 1963

I know what your thinking, what does one ensemble have to do with the other?

In truth it could be Justice league compared to xmen or fantastic four, but I have chosen the avengers as it is usually cited as some example of innovation from marvel.

well according to stan lee in his autobiography the justice leagues success as a comic book led to the creation of both the fantastic four and essentially led to marvel doing more teams (xmen, avengers, etc) martin goodman (marvel owner at time) told stan lee to come up with an ensemble team of superheroes after seeing the success of the justice league

according to stan lee in his autobiography origins of marvel comics
"Martin mentioned that he had noticed one of the titles published by National Comics seemed to be selling better than most. It was a book called The [sicJustice League of America and it was composed of a team of superheroes. ... ' If the Justice League is selling ', spoke he, "why don't we put out a comic book that features a team of superheroes?"

this started with fantastic four and evolved to avengers and xmen. Essentially without the Justice league none of these marvel ensemble would exist.

well thats it for my comparison, its my first editiorial. let me know your thoughts below and if you like what you have read dont forget to click the thumbs up.

First of all Green Arrow is Basically a rip off of Batman
Second of all Hawkeye and Green Arrow have completely different characteristics outside their abilities

There isn't anything wrong with taking inspiration from the competition, especially when your new product proves to be superior.
MrBlackJack
MrBlackJack - 10/4/2014, 11:33 AM
Besides, taking inspiration from others happens all the time, whether it be in literature, cinema, or everyday business. And one could just as easily make one about DC characters that have been inspired by Marvel characters. It goes both ways.

For example Thanos is way better than Darkseid, sometimes inspiring from something already existing makes a superior version.

did we need a editorial on this? i think a vast majority of users here will know all of this. besides there is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from your competition.

@kinghulk really?

@ZeoTV

The only similarity Green Arrow and Batman share is that they have no powers. We're talking comic book versions, not the show Arrow.

You missed Deadpool and Deathstroke. Not really a rip off, but more of a satire.

DC: look I made cookies!

Marvel: You know what would make these better? Chocolate chips!

DC: Shut up! You stole my cookie ideas! My plain chipless cookies are the best because they came first!

Marvel: I can't hear you over the sound of me eating these awesome chocolatey cookies!

Yeah these companies do this.

Stan Lee said before Spider-Man was inspired by Batman.
Deadpool is definitely a satirical version of Deathstroke.
Marvel had Namor first.

I want to know the truth about Man Thing and Swamp Thing. I find so many contradictory articles all over the web, stating what character came first and by what creator. I even read one that said both characters were created at the same time by two roomates. And the roomates never shared any info with each other. Supposed to be some huge coincidence. I prefer Swamp Thing myself.

@Dingbat I am Talking about comics
Bruce Wayne is a wealthy playboy who's parents were murdered
Oliver Queen is a wealthy playboy who's parents were murdered
Bruce Wayne uses Advanced Technology to become a vigilante and fight crime
Oliver Queen uses advanced Technology to become a vigilante and fight crime
Bruce Wayne has a young sidekick who eventually becomes a hero of their own
Oliver Queen has a young sidekick who eventually becomes a hero of their own

@ZeoTV

Many heroes share these similarities among other things...

Let me elaborate

Bruce Wayne dresses up like a bat
Oliver Queen dresses up like a bat

Bruce Wayne is sullen/brooding
Oliver Queen is sullen/brooding

Not the same

Some of the circumstances of their crime fighting are similar, but these two men literally have different characters. They don't act or think the same. And pointing out that they use advanced equipment is pointless. Oliver Queen uses a bow and Batman uses batarangs, grappling hooks, etc...

@Odin Forgot Batman was a rip off of Zorro
Dingbat
Dingbat - 10/4/2014, 12:33 PM

Also not true. Batman was inspired by the Shadow and Zorro, but in no way is he a copy.

@ZeoTV

"a ripoff is a blatant or unscrupulous copy or imitation"

The terms are synonymous.
ZeoTV
ZeoTV - 10/4/2014, 12:49 PM
A rip off is not a copy it is where you steal certain elements of characteristics from a character and implement them into another character
comiccow6
comiccow6 - 10/4/2014, 1:02 PM
Archery, super speed, shrinking, and magic are hardly unique when it comes to super powers. It's like calling someone my clone for having the same last name as me.
RealDCGuy
RealDCGuy - 10/4/2014, 1:22 PM
Really Thanos and the Avengers I can legitimately call rip-offs. All the others share are powers and gimmicks.
