Brian Michael Bendis thrusts the Ultimate and 616 Universes together to make Peter Parker (who is now basically an adult as well as an Avenger) meet Miles Morales who adopted the Spider-Man persona from the late Peter Parker in the Ultimate Marvel Universe, but who is behind this universal collision course? Mysterio who was revealed by Brian Michael Bendis.

This comic is basically just a set up for what is to come in the near future of Spider-Men which is definitely a book I am going to follow. I expect everything to get exciting by at least issue 3 much like AvX which was slow at the start and has finally picked up the steam it needs. If you’re a fan of Peter Parker I definitely recommend you pick this comic up as most of the story in this issue so far revolves around him and he is very hilarious in this book. I really can’t talk too much about this book because there isn’t a ton of action or any spectacular moments in it but it is definitely one to buy.

What I love about this issue is the blending of Ultimate and 616 art styles to create a perfect universal merging story. I believe strongly that Spider-Man is the only character that could be pulled off with an art style like this because of his comedic side and how he is just such a damn fun character. When Peter finally travels to the Ultimate Universe and realizes he isn’t where he was before, the art style perfectly merges the two worlds together. As a comic reader, you know that some of the more serious 616 books have a dark, gritty and sometimes detailed art style whereas Ultimate’s style is more fun, cartoony and sometimes over the top. An adult peter looks great in this Universe and the moment he interacts with someone from the Ultimate universe, you really get a feeling about how good it is. The 616 and Ultimate art blend is pretty much the best part of this comic if you don’t like comics that just set up the event.

Spider-Men #1 is definitely one to buy despite it not being filled with Miles and Peter action but I guarantee that Bendis will not disappoint if you are generally a fan of his large catalogue of comics and a Spider-Man lover. I give this book a solid 8 out of 10 stars.

Definitely enjoyed this btw I got the cover with their masks off...I love Sara Pichelli's artwork as well as Ponsor's cover so I can enjoy those while Bendis builds the story.
