COMICS: 90’s Mutants, Muscles And Munitions Return In DEADPOOL VS. X-FORCE #1

Journey back to the days of the 1990s, when two characters debuted who would change the face of comics – Cable & Deadpool! Today, Marvel have announced Deadpool Vs. X-Force, a new limited series from the explosive creative team of Duane Swierczynski and Pepe Larraz! Check it out...

In this all-new tale, we learn of the pair’s first meeting, well before their first comic book appearance in New Mutants #98, as Cable and his soon to be X-Force race through the timestream to stop the reckless mercenary Deadpool before he destroys American history for good!

“Deadpool's gone back to key points in American military history: the Battle of Germantown during the Revolutionary War; Gettysburg during the Civil War, and then... well, I can't say anything else, because you know how one little musket ball has a funny of changing the course of human events,” says series writer Duane Swierczynski. Harkening back to the earliest days of X-Force, this series promises to offer a time-jumping tale featuring that truly resonates the style and tone of the 90’s as Swierczynski is quick to emphasize, “OH THERE WILL BE GUNS, 90s style, although in some cases they'll be fused with some old-school killing machines.”

“Every script I get from Duane is a blast and a half--and then Pepe gets a hold of it and really kicks it into high gear, says series Editor Jordan D. White. “For fans of the 90s, the American Revolution, and everything in between, this is going to rock.” This July, join the Cable and his band of mutants, X-Force, as they hunt Deadpool through time to prevent him from forever altering the history as we know it! Can Cable and X-Force stop him before burning down the fabric of American history? And will they set things right, even if it means their own destruction?

Even in the 90's, I couldn't stand Liefeld's art. I never got why it was so popular and am so glad he gets so much flack now. The first thing I read of his was the New Mutants part of X-tinction Agenda. SUCH a horrible shift from Jim Lee to his stuff.

To be fair, I don't feel Lee's art has aged too well. Some artists these days have AMAZING skill and talent. And still...Liefeld gets work.

How is this like the 90's? I don't see any characters with a ridiculous amount of pouches, knives, and swords. Where are the irregular body proportions and names that have the words "blood, gun, blade, knife, and death" in them? How about the holographic covers that won't be worth much many years later?

Get it together, guys!

Its because Liefeld's art style, back then, was something new and dynamic. He lost popularity when people started to compare his drawings with the ones from other artists.

I liked the 90's in comics a lot more. Loved the artists and the fact there wasn't constant re-issuing of titles, a over-saturation of major story-line events, and Spider-Man was more awesome.

I think Jim Lee's modern art style is much MUCH better than when it was in the 90's.

While Jim Lee is brilliant and I personally prefer his X-men style (show above) to the new he's still a genius no matter what.

Now, Rob on the other hand is absolutely garbage top to bottom. In that X-Force comic up there he has like 12 people on the cover and only 1 and a 1/2 feet are shown.

The guy's shit and he's a dick. A shitty-dick. (homosexual reference)

No one with an iota of understanding of what good art is would ever defend Liefields art. I know art appreciation is subjective but not when it comes to Liefeld. The 90's had some gems but overall, it was a bad time for comics.

The 90s had Jim Lee on X-Men, Todd McFarlane on Spider-Man, Erik Larsen on Amazing Spider-Man, While Portacio on Uncanny X-Men, Marc Silvestri on Wolverine, Jim Valentino on GOTG, Dale Kweon on Hulk, Mark Bagley on another Spider-Man comic, Ron Lim on Silver Surfer, and Ron Frenz on Thor. Even Liefeld was ok with X-Force...lol I miss those days.

@inee, since when do you measure an artist by how many feet their draw per picture? If that's the case then what about the above Jim Lee pic you like? No feet so no good right?
