We recently learned that Marvel is going to take a back to basics approach with their legacy characters in a bid to bring back longtime readers and make the Marvel Universe a little more recognisable, and the first proof of that comes with the launch of Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert's Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man

Kicking off in June, it's unclear what this means for The Amazing Spider-Man and Dan Slott's take on Peter Parker having his own company and going on globe-trotting adventures, but based on comments from Zdarsky, this definitely sounds like it could be the title many fans have been demanding for a while now. Here's an excerpt from his interview over at Entertainment Weekly:

"The main book, Amazing Spider-Man, has kept things fresh by stretching the character and his situation. It’s still classic Spider-Man at its core, but transposed into new settings. With this book, we’re using the same Spider-Man in-continuity but shifting the spotlight back to his NYC environment and supporting cast. But even though we’re pushing to make it a more personal book, we’re still going to have big adventures with ramifications that’ll be felt in his other books. If I had, like, a true mission statement for the title though, it would be: “Have fun, have heart, have stakes.” My personal mission statement going into the book is 'With great power comes something something I don’t know I’ve never had power before.'"

Sounds pretty, well, spectacular, right? Details about what Peter will be getting up to here haven't been revealed, but the writer added that he's a big fan of 80s stories revolving around the likes of Hobgoblin and Venom, so we could see that work influencing his take. What do you guys think about the launch of this title? As always, let us know your thoughts down below.

@ODanil - Marvel needs to go back to basics with almost all of their characters.

Bring back all the normal characters.

Keep them contained in their own books for the most part.

Only do crossovers every now and then so they become something special again.

It isn't that hard.

Also, fix the X-Men. Cyclops. Wolverine. Colossus. Jean, but stay away from the Phoenix. Nightcrawler. Storm. Rogue.

Come on guys.

Chip Zdarsky is a great writer. I'm not the biggest SM fan, but I'll probably check this series out.

One of the best things about Spider-Man was he was a character who aged, unlike other superheroes. We saw him grow from a timid high schooler trying to juggle double lives, to a college student struggling with money, to a boyfiend who tragically loses his girlfriend, to a graduate unable to jump start his career, to a grad student, to a husband, to a father.

Spider-Man is the everyman who goes through the everyday problems we do. The comics fell apart when the writers forgot that and stopped aging/developing the character.

Let's see Peter progress through life again. Let's see him struggle to be a father and a superhero, lets see old age start to wear him down, lets see his children grow and how his double life effects that relationship. Let Peter age and grow again and they may recapture the old Spider-Man magic, again.

Spider-Man was at his best when he was just a regular, but nerdy joe. Making ends meet. Saving the day. The usual.
