Morena Baccarin has made her mark on the Marvel Universe by playing Vanessa in the Deadpool franchise, but she's no stranger to DC either. As well as voicing Gideon in The Flash, she also had a recurring role as Leslie Thompkins in Gotham and has played the likes of Cheetah and Talia al Ghul in animation.
Now, with James Gunn working on a DCU reboot as DC Studios' co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, could Baccarin finally play another DC Comics character in live-action? She has, after all, long been a fan-favourite choice to bring the likes of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Wonder Woman to screen.
On Friday, we spoke with Baccarin to discuss her standout role in Fast Charlie, an edge-of-your-seat action thriller directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Pierce Brosnan (it arrived in select theaters and On Demand on December 8).
While we had the chance, we asked if the DC roles fans have so often suggested her for are still of interest. "There are phenomenal characters in both universes," Baccarin responded. "I loved doing Gotham when I had the chance, but yeah, I would love to. I think, for me, it’s all about that strong female part."
Talking of strong female roles, with the Deadpool 3 star sharing the screen with former 007 Pierce Brosnan here, we wondered whether she'd be open to playing one of the all-new badass Bond Women when the long-running series is next rebooted. "Yeah, of course," she laughed, "though I think I’m angling more to be Bond!"
It would be beyond awesome to see Baccarin in either franchise, though a lead role in the DCU is arguably long-overdue. Gunn and Safran are still in the process of rebooting the franchise, so we're sure there will soon be plenty of characters for the Gotham alum to pick from.
We'll be bringing you our full Fast Charlie interview tomorrow, but in the meantime, you can watch it in the player above.
Charlie Swift (Pierce Brosnan), aka "Fast Charlie," is a fixer with a problem: the target he's whacked is missing his head. And he must prove it's the intended target to the man who paid for the hit - New Orleans' most prominent and most ruthless mobster, Beggar Mercado (Gbenga Akinnagbe). Charlie enlists Marcie Kramer (Morena Baccarin), the victim's ex-wife and a woman with the backbone and skillset Charlie needs. Dragging Marcie back into a past she was determined to escape sends the two of them on a wild and unpredictable odyssey that's unexpectedly amusing, action propelled, and ultimately heartfelt. Along the way, Charlie and Marcie fight to protect the legacy of Charlie's best friend and mentor, Stan Mullen (James Caan in his final performance), while bringing down Beggar and his entire operation.
