Josh Brolin Addresses Those DEADPOOL 2 Reshoots And Confirms There's Still Work To Be Done On AVENGERS 4
In a new interview, Josh Brolin sheds some light on the real story behind those reshoots which added more Cable and Domino to Deadpool 2 and confirms that he'll be returning for Avengers 4 this year.
Not too long ago, we heard that Deadpool 2 reshoots were taking place in order to give Cable and Domino a little more screentime after test screenings revealed that moviegoers wanted more of them. There are, of course, worse reasons for additional photography to take place and now Josh Brolin has opened up on why the decision was made to give Nathan Summers a larger role in the sequel.
"There was so much emphasis on Cable that you forgot that it was an introductory movie for Cable. We go into X-Force and Cable’s a massive presence in X-Force, he’s the leader of X-Force, and Deadpool’s a part of X-Force, so it’s a very introductory film for him. There was so much emphasis put on him, that when you go ‘we gotta do reshoots because test screenings loved that character’, but having done True Grit with 7 minutes of screen time, but you’re talking about him the whole time, he feels like he’s in the entire movie. This, you’re talking about Cable so much, you feel like he’s in more of the movie than he is. But I think we just needed a little more, and we needed to tighten up a few things. There were a couple of fight scenes that we just made more complete."
So, Cable clearly needed to have a larger role in proceedings but what of Zazie Beetz's Domino? "It was four days of reshoots, something like that," the actor explains when asked about the hero. "Also it’s about personalising the character, and about how loyal you stay to the comic books. It’s a different look for Domino, and people were very reactive. But now, when people see it, they love her."
Cable obviously isn't the only Marvel Comics character Brolin is playing this year as he showed up as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War last month and will return as the Infinity Gauntlet wielding villain next year too. Asked if he's finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he said "I've done most of that" and added that he's "close" to being finished, an indication he'll be returning for some reshoots.
