In Deadpool 2's closing moments, Wade Wilson manages to get his hands on Cable's time-travel device and proceeds to cause chaos by travelling through time. Clearly meant as little more than a series of gags, aside from Vanessa's resurrection, we're guessing the original Deadpool 3 wouldn't have revisited any of that.
However, with the threequel now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like the Merc with the Mouth's actions are going to tie into the wider Multiverse Saga.
Rumour has it Deadpool's time-travel shenanigans will see him run afoul of the Time Variance Authority, but where does Josh Brolin's Cable fit into that? The actor hasn't shared the warmest sentiments about working on the 2018 sequel but would surely be open to working with Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios again.
Well, according to one reliable insider, while Cable won't be in Deadpool 3, there are still plans for Brolin to reprise the role elsewhere in the MCU.
Your guess is as good as ours in regards to when and where that might happen, though Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars are arguably the safest bet right now.
This isn't confirmed, though we've heard rumblings there's a good reason for Cable's absence in Deadpool 3. When the TVA takes aim at Deadpool, it will be revealed that the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey has been returned to his own timeline, with Wade forced to answer for his actions by toying with time.
It's clear Deadpool 3 will be a key chapter in the Multiverse Saga, so as exciting as those rumoured cameos are, the threequel will likely be more important to whatever comes next than we initially expected.
Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
