It's not even March and Beauty and the Beast is already tracking for a gargantuan $100-120 million opening weekend in the U.S., which is a fantastic start to a film that is expected to dominate the box office deep into spring.

With a potential $120 million domestic opening weekend, it would become the third highest March opener ever and Disney's biggest March release. Some early estimates even predict that the film has an outside shot at claiming the top opening weekend in March, topping last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opened to a monstrous $166 million.

Advance tickets sales have been very good, performing very similarly to numerous superhero blockbusters, and while the demographic is leaning female, it's starting to look more and more like the film will perform very well amongst all audiences. Early buzz from exhibitors, who have already seen the film, is also exceedingly positive.

Check out the latest TV spot, which features more of Emma Watson's Belle and Dan Stevens' Beast, below:

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Still think they should've gone with someone else for Beauty

@Kevwebsz - I dunno... She's fine, I guess. I'm just disappointed that all of these live-action remakes are basically one-and-done affairs. I'd really like to see a Disney Princess Avengers type film with Lily James, Richard Madden, Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and any of a dozen other live-action adaptations of animated Disney classics.

The implication is that these rags-to-opulent riches stories are the conclusion of who these people really are. Their journey is complete because they marry nobility. That's generally the arc of their classic stories, but hardly the only worthy conversation to have in a fantasy medieval setting.

...Granted, attempts in the past to come up with second-stage stories for the Disney films have been crass money grabs and usually pretty blowful, but that doesn't mean it can't be done or shouldn't be attempted.

From what ive heard these live action remakes have been hit and miss
Alice In Wonderland: I saw it and it was very disappointing, Tim Burton doing Alice In Wonderland should be a perfect match, but they turned it into an action movie.
Malificent: It seems overrated
Cinderella: I hear its great
Jungle Book: I saw it and it was great
hopefully this and Lion king turn out well

@dracula - Burton and anything isn't really a good match anymore, I don't think. (Maybe that Amy Adams weird painter movie.) Malificent is good, but doesn't really belong in the "remake" category. It's more like a Sleeping Beauty version of Wicked. Haven't seen the other two, but everything I've heard suggests they are quality films (though maybe too limited in their deference to the original).

I think as long as these movies don't go too far astray from the material, they can coast on nostalgia and production values. And there's nothing inherently wrong with that. A good enough movie is good enough.
