Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed details of the incident last Monday in a Town Hall style meeting with ABC employees, as per Deadline's report. Iger explained that the hackers were demanding a ransom and would release increments of the movie online if their demands remained unmet.

Iger declined to reveal which movie it was that had been stolen. The film in question is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales according to Deadline.

The payments are being demanded made via bitcoin and although Disney has not confirmed their stance, it seems that the company is refusing to pay.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales releases May 26

Released online or not .. it wont hurt the movies box office .. though if it underperforms they will have something to blame it on I suppose.

Either way, free publicity

@bigdannymac - true halloween and wolverine origins workprint were released online and those films did great. if it flops like expendables 3 they are just gonna blame it on piracy, even though it flopped becuz the movie was terrible.

For anyone reading the breaking news that internet pirates have stolen a copy of "Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" and will soon leak it out via whoever they ransom it to, please don't watch the movie until u see it in theaters Memorial Day Weekend. I'll give u 2 reasons why u should:
1. This movie is meant to be seen on the big screen, especially IMAX 3D, given its now been announced to be specially formatted in IMAX 3D. Watchin it on a little tablet is no joy and is not like going to the movies.
2. Finally, the most important reason of all is because the global financial success of this movie is what will keep Johnny Depp out of prison, given his last films that have bombed are costing him money.
So, please, guys, don't watch a pirated copy of this movie. Wait for it in theaters. Am I right, guys?

@MarvelFan15 - huh? And .. huh? Also, Depp could see his next 30 movies bomb and it wouldn't put a dent in his networth.

Damn that sucks.

Can't they get people tech geniuses to erase the thing from the net or is that not a possibility? They do it in the movies all the time.
