A Marvel Comic? WOW! the Rip-off is complete.

Fables is better.

nikgrid - How exactly is it a rip off? Because both are based on fairy tale properties?

@DeusExSponge No, it's because Once Upon a Time was supposed to be based on Fables, but the executives thought that the comic was too dark, so they changed it and made it more "family friendly". Now, they made a comic that's based off of the show, that was initially based off of the comic (Fables). It's pretty much a ripoff.

GoogleWasmyIdea - Oh what?! I thought Once Upon a Time was an original property from Disney. Huh, you do learn new things everyday. So everything has come full circle then.

My bad nikgrid, didn't even know what was going on here.

@DeusExSponge Yeah I was taken aback when I first heard of it, which was right around the time that the author of Fables said he was finishing up the series at issue #150. I also found out at that time that before it was ordered at ABC (and subsequently ripped off into Once Upon a Time) it was ripped off at NBC, under the show name of Grimm. The dude really can't catch a break.

GoogleWasMyIdea - Ouch, poor guy. But apparently Fables is getting a movie, so maybe he'll finally get his due.

I love Once upon a time. Never realized it was a rip-off of Fables though. Anyway, playing Wolf Among Us and really loving the story. WOuld love to see their version of Snow and Bigby and the rest be on TV. Much darker and more murder mystery and mayhem than "fairytale-ish"...

That's cool. Yeah I believe Bill Willingham had a meeting with ABC about a Fables TV Series and they said thanks but no thanks...then months later Boom! Once upon a time shows up....interesting no?

And just seeing the comic that Marvel are doing made me laugh! but in a "I can't believe they pulled that shit" way.

nikgrid - Damn, that's pretty shaddy. ABC should have just made a deal with Willingham.

@MrPagBrewster Actually they did incorporate parts of Anderson's original Snow Queen story into the show. For instance, Elsa isn't that Snow Queen. Her aunt is. They even used the Mirror concept from the original story to create The Spell of Shattered Sight, which cursed everyone to inhabit the ugliness inside of them. Gerda, from the original story became Elsa and Anna's mother and the original Snow Queen was revealed in this version as her oldest sister-making Ice Magic a rare genetic trait passed down in the family. They actually did much more for the story than the animated musical did to pay tribute to Anderson's original story.

They also made a point of clarifying that Ursula, the Sea Witch, who appeared last spring is only named after the great sea goddess, and not the same person. So, Ursula, the hinted original, could still be an Elder God.

And your more concerned about where the Shadow came from for Pan than the fact that it looks like Rumple was raised by Atropos, Clotho and Lachesis while his father was out gambling his life away?

@nikgrid It may have started as a rip-off concept of Fables, but it's enough different and deviated, and living in it's own mythology, that Fables could come out right now, and people would simply see it as another, yet darker, fairy tales in modern world story. I've lost track of how many Crime Scene Investigation dramas have gone on.

I like this show, but it gets redundant sometimes.

I don't know Scion, I think if Fables came on TV (Where it belongs) people would be calling THAT the rip-off, when the opposite is true.

Fables was such a f ucking brilliant comic, it's a shame we won't see it on TV because of this ONCE shit.
