DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Named 2022's "Best Movie" At People's Choice Awards

It was a big night for Marvel Studios at the People's Choice Awards, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Scarlet Witch actress having a particularly good night. Read on for details...

The People's Choice Awards took place yesterday evening, and it was a very good night for this year's superhero movies. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness besting the likes of The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick to be named the best movie of 2022 definitely isn't something we saw coming.

We're guessing it was too late for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to receive any nominations seeing as it was only released weeks ago, but Marvel Studios still picked up some other noteworthy wins.

Among them was best male star for Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder) and best female star for Elizabeth Olsen for her work in the Doctor Strange sequel. In fact, the latter ended up beating the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Tom Cruise, and Chris Pratt to be named the year's best action movie star after unleashing the Scarlet Witch's evil side back in May!

While we'd argue that The Batman was the year's best superhero movie, it feels like it's been largely forgotten given how long ago it was released. Plus, throw in how much drama there has since been with that changing of the guard at Warner Bros. Discovery and the newly launched DC Studios, and it's no wonder it isn't at the forefront of people's minds.

Check out some of the CBM-relavant winners below, and be sure to check out the full list at The Hollywood Reporter.

I know folks have issues with this film and trust - I do too.. but I still really enjoyed MoM quite a bit.

Next to Wakanda Forever, this was some the best of Phase Four. That’s not saying much but still.

@TheLobster - I thoroughly enjoyed it, definitely had it’s problems, but had a great time.

@BassMan - had some of the most exciting sequences, fantastic CGI (not Marvel’a forte these days), and felt refreshing compared to run of the mill MCU films like Black Widow. It also achieved this all while having a production set during the pandemic which led to them changing quite a bit of things in the script.

Do I wish we saw a lot more crazy multiverse moments? Yes. Do I hate Wanda’s annoying ass kids? Yes. Do I wish we saw Wanda turn in the first act rather than already be evil? Yes… but even with all that - this film deserves more recognition than it gets.

@TheLobster - there’s a lot to like. Feige even let Raimi channel vintage Deadite craziness. While there is a lot to like, I feel that Shang-Chi was far better

@TheLobster - Glad to see some people on this site are holding the MCU to some standard, unabashed praise of every single product without critique will just prompt them to spew out more lackluster films/shows.

@TheLobster - Agree with all your remarks.

IMO Top Gun was a better movie tho.

@TheLobster - Its garbage but I enjoyed it :-)

@SauronthePower - I really enjoyed Shang Chi until they started introducing the fantasy elements and bringing Trevor back. The third act is very meh for me so if they stuck the landing better - I would have probably agreed with you. I also don’t like Awkafina lol

@soberchimera - 1000000% agree. Phase Four really shit the bed in a lot of ways and my overall excitement for Phase Five is nowhere near as high as it would normally be. I really hope that Iger coming back means a return to quality over quantity. I don’t need 8 MCU Disney+ series when only 2 of them are worthwhile.

@TheLobster - the third act does suffer from the cgi [frick]fest of the finale yet also has arguably one of the better end fight scenes in a marvel movie between father and son.

I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed Elvis, a really well made movie and Austin butler did great as the lead.

Top Gun: Maverick was really good as well

I thought the movie sucked. My friends and I couldn't wait for it to finish. The fact that this got a nomination goes to show that there haven't been a lot of movies this year and the quality was low. By the list of movies mentioned I think they should change it from "the people's choice" to "the kids' choice" awards.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - I felt like that with Thor:Love And Thunder. When that movie started I was like I've got two hours of this.
