Marvel Studios has shared a jaw-dropping new TV spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that finally names The Illuminati and includes even more epic footage from the upcoming blockbuster...

In the latest TV spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we see Master Mordo finally name the sequel's mysterious group of Variants, "The Illuminati." This was expected, of course, but the promo also marks the first time they've been referred to by that moniker.

While Mordo, Sir Parick Stewart's Professor X, and a Captain Marvel Variant (likely Maria Rambeau) all appear to be part of the clandestine goup, it's quite a departure from the comic books, where they were typically heroes from the main 616 Marvel Universe who got together because, well, they're smarter than everyone else. We'd argue this is a far more interesting take on the team, though.

Elsewhere in this sneak peek, we see a little more of that undead Doctor Strange, the Christine Palmer Variant (Clea?), and one of America Chavez's star-shaped portals to another reality.

Check out the TV spot, and a newly released poster for the Doctor Strange sequel, below:

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The movie's cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

This makes it sound like Mordo isn't on the Illuminati himself, so guess he might not be a variant after all.

Also, only ten days? Time flies

@bkmeijer1 - I think it's a bit of a waste not to just use the Mordo from the first film. The motivations line-up with Mordo having taken the magic from some sorcerers from his universe but if he failed, he would likely want to move on to moderating multiversal magic from the highest level.

Maybe the inclusion of a variant will work in the context of the film, but I think it is a waste of prior character development

@JFerguson - if main Mordo isn't in this (a lot), I kinda do hope he'll be in the third one. Can see him make a pact with Mordo to take out all magic users
