What I Would Do For A Punisher Max Movie

What I Would Do For A Punisher Max Movie

This what I would do for a Punisher MAX movie. With full cast and plot!

First off, why the hell hasn't a good Punisher movie been made yet?

I mean, you'd think after three tries (THREE F***ING TRIES!) those dumbasses down at Hollywood would have figured out how to make a good Punisher movie.
The 1989 movie? Terrible.
The 2004 movie? Better, but still bad.
The 2008 movie? Ray Stevenson was perfect, and it got his origin right, but everything else was $hit.
This is how I, were I a filmmaker (which I sort of am), I would approach a Punisher movie.
Title: Either Punisher MAX or Punisher: New Beginning (it’s based off the first Punisher MAX storyline, In the Beginning). I'm leaning towards Punisher MAX.
Rating: Rated R for Language, Violence and Gore Throughout, Nudity, Drug and Alcohol use, and Brief Sequences of Rape
Cast:
PUNISHER- RAY STEVENSON

Because, like I said, Ray was perfect. Whoever cast him as Volstagg is an idiot. RAY IS THE PUNISHER!
MIKE ELROY (See plot below) - Will Smith

When I made the character of Mike Elroy, the one person I had in mind to play him was Will Smith. No one else could really pull off the part, at least in my mind.
NICK CAVELLA- LIAM NEESON

In this movie, instead of just banishing him to Boston in the In the Beginning storyline, Cavella and his boys were banished to Ireland, and with Liam Neeson being of Irish descent, I think he would be a great Nick Cavella (changed from Nicky to Nick because Nicky sounded stupid to me. I'm allowed to have an opinion, damn it.)
KATHRYN O'BRYAN- MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ

She's hotter than hell and knows how to kick ass. How can you go wrong?
WILLIAM ROTH- NEIL PATRICK HARRIS

He looks like him, and besides, wouldn't we all enjoy seeing him have his balls cut off and put in a paper cup? I would.
BETHELL- LINUS ROACHE

He's the guy who played Bruce's father in Batman Begins. I really didn't give too much of a damn about this one.
PITTS- MARK BOONE JUNIOR

He is best known for his role as Flass in Batman Begins. Unlike the fat bald guy who played "Pittsy" in Warzone, Pitts (name changed to avoid any connection to said Warzone) would be the hardcore, foulmouthed bastard from the In the Beginning storyline.
LARRY- Oh I don’t know.
Probably just some guy off the street would be fine. He wouldn’t have that big of a problem.
Plot: The Punisher (Stevenson), who has now been at it for 13 years, enacts a massacre at the birthday party of an aging crime boss, Massimo Cesare. The only survivor, Larry Barrucci, who takes it upon itself to save the Italian Mafia from being replaced by another country as the dominant crime ring, calls Nick Cavella (Neeson) to kill the Punisher. Meanwhile, the C.I.A. hires an expert on the Punisher, Mike Elroy (Smith) who has spent 11 years studying everything about the Punisher, to try to convince Punisher to work as a black ops agent in the hunt for Bin Laden. After capturing Frank Castle, Elroy proposes this offer to Castle, who simply replies with a "[frick] you." Before Elroy can retaliate, the apartment in which Bethell (Roache), the CIA agent who is overseeing the negotiations, and his team (comprised of Garth Ennis, Tim Bradstreet, Tom Jane, Lexi Alexander, Jonathan Heinsleigh, and yes, Stan Lee, in cameo roles) is breached by Cavella, Larry, and Cavella's muscle, Pitts (Boone Junior). Cavella was made aware of their location through the torturing by castration of one of Bethell's agents, Roth (Harris). But before Cavella can kill Castle, who is in chains, Bethell's other agent, Kathryn O'Bryan (Rodriguez) stalls Cavella long enough for Castle to be freed by a wounded Elroy, who then proceeds to fight Pitts, ripping out one of his eyes. Cavella then shoots the Punisher in the shoulder, allowing the trio to escape, kidnapping Bethell. Castle then takes a wounded Elroy and O'Bryan with him to escape. While driving away, O'Bryan tells the Punisher about Cavella, who was a ruthless gangster in New York until he raped the head crime boss's daughter. Elroy then confesses Bethell's means of getting funds, through various cocaine dealerships and prostitution rings all across New York. Elroy then says the trio have to save Bethell, and the Punisher immediately agrees, shocking both Elroy and O'Bryan. Meanwhile, Cavella has Larry call in all the guns he can, as he suspects the C.I.A. will be all over him in retaliation for his attempted hit and run. Later that night, after O'Bryan calls in a helicopter equipped with duel sentry guns to take care of most of the mobsters around the Cesare mansion, in which Cavella, Pitts, and Larry inhabit. Afterwards, with O'Bryan remaining in the chopper to take care of any late mobsters who might show up, Punisher and Elroy, through the use of M-16s, Uzis, grenades, and a twelve gauge shot gun used by Elroy, eliminate the rest of Cavella's men. When they reach Bethell, without encountering Cavella, Castle then shoots Bethell in the head, stating that “it wasn’t a rescue mission”, justifying it as punishment for Bethell’s corrupt ways, much to the dismay of Elroy. They then notice that outside, O’Bryan’s helicopter has been shot down by a missile fired by Cavella, who is now making his escape. Punisher prepares to shoot him, but suddenly Pitts shoots Elroy in the back with a shotgun, killing him. After a long and brutal fight, Punisher kills Pitts by decapitating him with a butcher’s knife. Punisher then considers going after Cavella, but decides not too in favor of tending to a barely alive O’Bryan. Punisher takes O’Bryan to a hospital. After a few days, Punisher visits O’Bryan, who, despite having a broken leg and collar bone, tells him she’s fine. Castle asks O’Bryan where he would be able to find Cavella, to which she replies his “pussy ass” is probably retreating to Ireland (Sequel, anyone?). Punisher then thanks O’Bryan for her help than leaves, intent on finding and punishing Cavella.

So what do you guys think?

Dude I wouldn't PI$$ on PUNISHER WH@REZONE with yours! : P

By far the worst PUNISHER movie and pure insult!

....The least favorite bits (damn so many lol) is mainly the script/killing Micro on his first big screen outting/and the one-and-a-half Punisher tag team... uh I mean task force lol taking down Frank... wont even go into the rest or the acting and Batman & Robin lighting! : P

I've gotta be the biggest Punisher fan on here (bar NERO), got near every single Punisher appearance, more than just MAX!

I h8 War Zone with every inch of my being, even worst than the Dolph one as that was a 1990 flick and could get away with the 80's action movie... though it was not very good yes!

TOM JANE by far is the best PUNISHER... 100% and hopefully get him off the HBO series 'Hung' and onto the HBO series 'Punisher!'

; P

Gr8 story but no to Ray... let him stay in THOR!

Will Smith... seriously?

I think the story is a little thin to be a full film.
There are some major plot holes too, one: you rape a mob boss' daughter you don't get to be banished, you get dead. Period. No matter who you are. True story, John Gotti's neighbor acidently hit one of his kids with his car.

"On March 18, 1980, Gotti's youngest son, 12-year-old Frank Gotti, was run over and killed on a family friend's mini-bike by John Favara, a neighbor.
Police found Favara not to blame for the accident, and no charges were ever filed against him. In the months after the accident the word "MURDERER" was spray-painted onto Favara's car and he was advised to move. On July 28, 1980, Favara disappeared after leaving work and has never been found. The Gotti family was in Florida at the time of his disappearance. In January 2009, prosecutors claimed that Charles Carneglia, an alleged mob soldier awaiting trial on five murders, dissolved Favara's remains in a drum of acid after murdering him." - From Wikipedia.

To think a guy could get away with rape of someone's daughter, a serious violation of Omertà, when committed against the family of a higher ranking member of la cosa nostra. Even if it was done to a rival family, the matter would be taken to the crime commission, the meeting of the five families, and the death warrant would be issued with reprisals forbidden by anyone connected to Cavella, lest they have the same fate.
NERO

Two: The Irish syndicates have no connection to the Italian mob, here or in Europe. Cavella could have run to Ireland to hide, sure. But why? An Italian yank would stick out like a sore thumb and would not be at all welcomed by the Irish gangs. More than likely he would have been simply handed over to the American or Italian mobs for cash. Why does Neeson's Irish heritage matter? The character is of Italian decent... Cavella. Nick or Nicky doesn't matter, but the surname says it all. The reason Cavella was sent to Boston in the comics was because he was an animal and the Italian mob has always had stiff competition in Boston from the Irish Westies, they sent him there to turn him loose on them. If he was sent anywhere Boston would make more sense than arbitrarily having him flee to Ireland, it would just take less exposition to explain.

Three: Where the hell did Cavella get a freakin' missile in the final act? And if Frank wanted Bethell dead, he would have just let Cavella do it. Then he would have dealt with Cavella at a time and place of his own choosing. Also the helecopter gunship is a bit much for Frank; he's more up close and personal. That, though exciting for the big screen, is a little over the top and out of place.

Suggestions: Setting the story in the modern day and saying Frank has only been at it for 13 years completely robs him of his origins in Vietnam, and I just can't see the character removed from them. The war-that war- and Frank are just too heavily linked because of the pure ambiguity of character one bred into the other. It was a conflict that was tailor made to allow a man to lose himself in it. If you set it in the modern day the only war recent to the mid 90's era would be the first Gulf War and 100 hours of ground conflict, that seriously was all there was, isn't enough to make a man a war addict in the way Frank became. It just doesn't do the character's origins justice. You could adjust it so that the story is going on in say 1990 or so and Bethell wants Frank to hunt down the Columbian cartels because the CIA was involved quite a bit on the war on drugs at the time, and if Bethell's own funding was coming from HIS dealings in the south American drug trade it would be like using Frank to eliminate the competition. Bethell could be made to be funding his own continuous war in which he himself is a key player. That would make him a truly shady and despicable character.

The story seems a little thin in that it jumps right into Punisher being found, rather easily, in Ennis' "In the Beginning" it makes a little more sense because it was Micro that track Frank down, and no one knows Frank better than Micro. Second, why would the CIA would be mixed up in low level crime for funding. As was the case in the original story, profit sharing with Afghan poppy crop cash is more in line with what the CIA could and would have access to, and would be a thousand times more profitable (Same with the Coca plantations if you adjust the time line).

It just needs a little more meat and more rationale to it is all .

As for casting, I agree with Leee. It’s not a bad cast, but Smith seems horribly out of place. I could see Linus Roache as Cavella more than Neeson. Nick is not really a physical threat to Frank as much as a wily enemy, also using a small smooth type would be more jarring when he snaps into full tilt psycho on occasion.

I'm not bashing the story, by any means, just trying to help you tighten it up.

It’s a good first shot at the subject. In my own FanFic Punisher: In the Dark Woods, I adapted “In the Beginning” and “Up is Down, Black is White” into an amalgamation focusing only on the Cavella arch and leaving Bethell and crew out. Feel free to look it up and give me a critique, I published it a while back in five parts about a hundred pages total in script form here and at Earth’s Finest. It was an adaptation so it leans heavily on Ennis’ initial scripted story from the MAX series. I’ve done a few other Punisher articles too. Like Leee says, I am a Frank Castle fanatic so you have to take me with a grain of salt. I knit pick, so you’ll have to forgive me.

Oh, and Lee, I will be releasing the first part of my new Punisher fanfic for you and the other Punisher nuts soon.

Punisher: Dead Man’s Party. Keep an eye out for it.

Brooklyn the winter of 1985, the Crack Epidemic has arrived and Bed-Stuy and Brownsville are tearing themselves apart. The Punisher finds himself facing a new threat and new enemies abound as new allies step forward to aid Frank Castle in his war on crime. Punisher must adjust to this new era squaring off against local drug kingpin John James Toomey and the shadowy and powerful machinations of the Columbian Cartels and their hired guns including a figure from Frank's past; J.R. Walker, the mercenary known as Shotgun. This fight gets personal.

Hmmm... Well I have to admit I am not a big Punisher fan. I have always found him to be a rather odd addition to to the MU. SuperHeros hate killers but they just let Punisher keep going. Never made much sense to me.

Now what I am a big fan of is the fiction behind Punisher. I wonder how many people here have heard of Mack Bolan called The Executioner?

Mack was in Vietnam when the mob killed his father and forced his sister into prostitution. Mack came back and realized the true enemy was not overseas it was right at home. A cancer called the Mob was destroying everything he had fought to defend. Thus started his one man war on Organized Crime.

There are some 100 books based on him and a number of spin-off series.

But based on those more than the comics I kinda liked Warzone. The Punisher reminded me a lot of Mack.

Your ideas are not that bad, but i recommend you to check out Frank Garret´s fan cast... I mean thats one h*ll of a cast man!:)

Ray Stevenson and Thomas Jane both are great choices as Frank Castle! The War Zone´s script and directing was just that terrible that Stevenson´s acting wasnt the best possible.

Wonder what kind of Punisher Liam Neeson would play? He could be pretty bad ass?... Anyone seen Taken or The A-Team? Neeson can be pretty crazy time to time! He just needs to gain some serious muscles!:) Also he is that old that he could play Castle who has been in Vietnam!

NERO @ Heh heh! ; D

punishermax12 @ I like Will Smith too lol, but can't see him in a Punisher movie... he could be cool for another Marvel superhero, what would you have him play if he wasn't in a Punisher movie?!?

It's hard to do a Punisher fancast with
NERO looking over your shoulder. LOL

Man, NERO@ you are a walking encyclopedia
about Punisher and mob doings! Badass
knowledge ya got there, my friend!

Yup, ya don't mess with Maffioso's children!
They ain't Frakkin' around!

But ppl need to listen to NERO'S@ advice when
doing a Punisher fancast.

To me, this one is not that bad! But Will Smith
in a Punisher movie? Are you kidding me???

And Jane was the best Punisher. He just needs to
be in a really hard (R) version of Frank Castle!
No campiness like WARZONE had! Just serious
business!

NERO, you need to do the script for it!

I thought that Stevenson was actually a really good Punisher it was just the rest of the characters that sucks. The best scene from Warzone is when Castle goes to the semetary and sees his families stone and he starts to cry that was actually kind of touching.

Nice cast I like it but I would have to say Jane is by far the best Punisher his movie is one of my fav movies.
Punisher2747

I liked jane the best because he played the role of depression well. But, the action was crap. Ray looked like frank, but did not act him except for the last line "let me put you out of my misery".

Will smith is a definate no.
Liam Neeson is a definate no.
For the role of your Irishman, I think you'll need someone like 15-20 years younger and someone who could pull off a cocky, caniving, narcasistic. Maybe Rhys Ifans or Colin Farell. Thats what I think.
