We're all eager to learn who will play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Fantastic Four, but until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, rumours will continue to swirl.
However, we have some intriguing news today courtesy of The Cosmic Circus; the site has learned that the reboot's working title is "Blue Moon." Monikers like this are used for casting calls and to keep a project secret. Sometimes, they have a meaning that ties into a movie's plot and, on other occasions, they're private in-jokes.
What's interesting about this one is that it does have ties to the comic book adventures of Marvel's First Family.
On the page, The Blue Area of the Moon (sometimes known as the "Blue Side of the Moon) was an artificial, Earth-like environment in the Luther Crater. The Blue Area was first explored by the Fantastic Four who discovered that the area contained the ruins of an alien city and the Citadel of Uatu the Watcher.
Fantastic Four would be a fitting movie to introduce the live-action version of Jeffrey Wright's take on the character from What If...?, anyway.
The site has also confirmed with sources that the plan at Marvel Studios is for "the First Family to make their debut in style by starting off with a grand cosmic adventure."
Galactus is still expected to be Fantastic Four's big bad, though we don't know whether Silver Surfer will appear. It's previously been reported that Norrin Radd will be the focus of a "Special Presentation," though that's said to have come to a "standstill" as filmmaker Matt Shakman continues figuring out the reboot's story.
As of now, it appears Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn are a lock for Invisible Woman and the Human Torch respectively. When it comes to the leader of the team, Adam Driver (Star Wars), Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home), and Matt Smith (Morbius) are both said to be in the mix for Mister Fantastic.
Antonio Banderas supposedly remains in the mix to star as Galactus, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach may end up playing the an unnamed Herald (The Fallen One and Terrax the Tamer are very real possibilities) or, considering the fact we're now hearing that unnamed character will be female, probably The Thing.
Shakman has worked with both Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman and WandaVision's Cam Squires on a draft of Fantastic Four's screenplay.
The movie is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
