Miles Teller Weighs In On FANTASTIC FOUR Backlash And Reveals A Shocking Fact About His HAN SOLO Audition
If you're not keen on the idea of Miles Teller playing Han Solo, a surprising revelation from the actor certainly isn't going to bring you around! He also talks in detail about the Fantastic Four backlash.
Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot is pretty much universally despised, and its many issues are common knowledge at this point. While the director has vanished from the public eye since the release of the movie, the cast haven't been quite so lucky, and Miles Teller (Reed Richards) talked openly about how he feels in regards to the fallout during a recent podcast appearance (via Collider).
"People think that when you make something like a Fantastic Four that doesn’t do well, people think ‘Oh you phoned it in’ and it couldn’t be more untrue. You work harder on the bad films, or the films that turn out maybe not the way you intended, because something’s not working. And I thought it was kind of unjustly critiqued that way; there are even bigger bombs if you’re looking at how much money went into the production and what they reaped back. But I think it’s unfortunate a movie like that becomes a scarlet letter on a resume when so many talented people worked really hard and maybe a handful of people took it in a negative direction. But so many people worked really hard on that that are so talented."
You have to feel for the actor, especially as he's clearly still trying to be diplomatic here despite clealry feeling somewhat hurt that the movie has damaged his reputation. Speaking of which, something which probably won't adhere him to the hearts of Star Wars fans is the revelation that he had never even watched the original movies before going into audition as the young Han Solo.
"I had never even seen any of the original Star Wars movies until maybe a month or a couple weeks before my first audition because I was like, ‘I should check this out’ (laughs). It holds up. I just love Harrison Ford, I think that’s a great character. I love his brand, I mean so many guys would’ve played that part so wrong and he has humor at the right times. Harrison Ford is a very big actor, when you see the facial expressions and the things he does he goes big, but he’s just always the coolest guy in the room and he’s got all of those great qualities."
Does him not being a fan of the franchise make him any less suitable for the role? We've seen many actors who haven't picked up a comic book in their lives do great jobs in superhero movies, but his lack of familiarity with Han could be an issue for some. As always, let us know your feelings on this below.
