Marvel Studios has made yet another impressive addition to The Fantastic Four's cast, with Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne set to play a mystery character according to Deadline.
Yes, like Paul Walter-Hauser and John Malkovich before her, there's no word on who the actress will play in the MCU. Regardless, this is a huge get for Marvel Studios and, while there's no official word on Lyonne's role, we'd love to hear your suggestions in the comments section.
Lyonne landed an Emmy nomination for starring in Rian Johnson's Power Face and she's attacked to produce, write, and direct episodes of the upcoming second season.
Other credits include Taika Waititi's next movie, Klara and the Sun, as well as His Three Daughters alongside Elizabeth Olsen and the next Smurfs movie. Lyonne is also no stranger to superhero movies after previously playing Sommerfield, a member of the Nightstalkers, in Blade: Trinity.
"It’s funny when you are the writer, the creator, the director and the star and you have 13 nominations or whatever, and it’s not like, 'Here’s a bunch of Marvel movies,'" Lyonne said last year of the impact Russian Doll's success has had on her career. "In fact, they’re like, 'Oh, now we see you as potentially intimidating.'"
"I don’t even mean anything to Marvel," she added. "And it can be unintentional. I think a lot of it is people trying to be generous, almost saying, 'Oh, I didn’t know you’d want to do that kind of thing. Like, you created 'PEN15,' why would you want to...' And I don’t know those ladies personally, but I don’t suddenly see them on billboards all over the city for rom-coms or whatever."
It took a while, but that Marvel offer finally came! Now, we just need to wait and see who she's playing.
Marvel Studios has announced that Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) will lead The Fantastic Four cast. Julia Garner has also joined the reboot as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer.
Recent additions to the cast include Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich in mystery roles, along with Ralph Ineson as the villainous Galactus.
Director Matt Shakman worked with both Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman and WandaVision's Cam Squires on The Fantastic Four's screenplay, with Eric Pearson (Black Widow) recently coming on board for a final polish.
The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
