We haven't heard anything about Arnold Schwarzenegger's rumored Conan the Barbarian revival in a while, but we do have some  exciting news about Robert E. Howard's hero making his way to the small screen.

Deadline reports that there's a new Conan TV series in the works at Amazon from from Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik, Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content.

The show will reportedly take the character back "to his literary origins", and is described as follows:

Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.

The 2011 Conan reboot starring Jason Momoa was not well received, but this TV adaptation has some serious talent behind it and will hopefully do Howard's iconic creation justice.

Great. Here come the fan picks of random muscular wrestlers who can't act to play the lead role.

Conan could make a good show... Never saw the recent film.

And Rest In Peace John Mahoney... Fraiser, Say Anything, In the Line of Fire, The American President, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Iron Giant... so many great works.

@Chewtoy - Wow! First I heard of this. Very sad news. Always loved him of Fraiser. He even voiced Sideshow Bob's father on the Simpsons in an episode. RIP.

Cool. Could you also make a Solomon Kane show?

@Ace006 - Other than "driven from his tribal homelands" it pretty much describes the stories. Everyone in civilization underestimates Conan because they think he's basically just a big dumb yokel.

@HarryBloodscreaming - To clarify, he leaves Cimmeria basically out of boredom.

@HarryBloodscreaming - i got what it was trying to say it just doesnt make sense cause the stories i've read don't really have that in them to the extent the description is making out

@Ace006 - It's a theme that runs through all the stories, but not necessarily always in an explicit way, though it's most definitely there. To make a movie or show it's important to chose a theme to focus on, and that usually gets emphasized more than it might be in the literary source.

@HarryBloodscreaming - maybe but i often find that the better stories have these themes subtly which i guess i can hope this show will do

There is no Conan without Arnold.

@TheDarkPassenger - Sighhh!!! "There is no Conan without Arnold" Really? Reeaally??? The Momoa version was far closer to the Robert E Howard vision, you know as in that Conan the Barbarian guy, not a body builder who could barley act at the time? I'd bet money that you can't see someone playing a brutal looking 5 foot 3" Canadian in a costume and a scary mask unless it's a piece of six foot two Australian Lady eye candy in a vest and leather jacket?

I'd like to see a non body builder / model / wrestler Conan. In the original stories he's a big feral monster and that can be pretty different than an obvious polished athlete.

[frick] yeah!
I totally wanted HBO to develop Conan for a series to fill the fantasy void once GOT ends, but I'm just glad someone is going to doing it for real.

Just make it good for Croms sake!
