Elijah Wood Says The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Could Be Re-Released In 3D

Converting older 2D movies in to 3D seems to be all the craze now a days, with films like Titanic and Star Wars taking advantage. Now, according to Elijah Wood, The Lord Of The Rings could be making the jump as well.

With all the 3D conversions that are being done these days it only seems likely The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy should get the same treatment. While there are no concrete plans yet, series actor Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins, says that there is some talk that the conversion could happen. Said Wood "I think it would be cool to see. There's talk of releasing a dimensionalised trilogy eventually. I'm okay with doing post-process 3D, as long as someone takes the time. What I'm upset about is when a movie doesn't have the budget and the time to devote to it and they're not fine-tuning the detail of that, because it can look really bad and cheap. But I know that they wouldn't dimensionalise it unless it was a super meticulous process." Wood pointed to movies like Titanic and Star Wars as reasons for The Rings Trilogy possibly making the conversion. Even taking a dig at Star Wars releasing Episode One first, "I mean, Titanic's coming out in 3D now, and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which means we have to wait three movies to get to the [frick]ing good shit, it's unbelievable, I'm like, we have to wait three years for that? You're doing Episode I first? [frustrated squeal], what a bummer!"

He then talked a little bit about getting back in to the character that is Frodo for the upcoming prequel to the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Wood said that he watched Fellowship of The Ring again to get back the sense of how the character spoke. Also said it brought back some good memories revisiting a four year chapter in his life. When talking about being on set for The Hobbit Wood recalls, "It felt like a giant family reunion in a way. The weirdest thing was being on set, looking down at my feet and it just feeling oddly normal, like, 'Here we are, doing another scene at Bag End, 10 years later.'"

This is no surprise that the powers that be would want to try and cash in even more money by converting The Lord Of The Rings to 3D. Leave your comments in the comment boxes below if you think this is a good idea. Check out The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14, 2012.

But... unless he's on the production team, how would he know if they would do it? I'm curious is all.

I'm not big on the whole 3D movie thing, but I would be absolutely down for seeing the LOTR trilogy in 3D.

If each film is split across two damn disks - they can stay on the shelf - just like the Blurays. There is NO reason for it! And when 3D dies, then it will be Redray, or scratch and sniff disks - forget about it. SICK of rebuying the same films!

One day, after the Hobbit movies are released, getting together at some nerd's house to watch them all back to back shall be the equivalent of "Wolf Badge" in the geek's rite of passage..

Not you too, Frodo!

As for Star Wars 3D, I may check out Episode III, best prequel, only prequel films are suited for 3D IMO, and it's the only one i've seen in the cinema. Actually, I may watch the original trilogy when they're released, so I can say I've seen them in the cinema :)

If EP3 was shot in 3D, the opening space battle would fill seats with ample amounts of bricks. Oh, ans shit.
