THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER - [SPOILER] Awakens In Episode 7, "The Eye"

"The Dwarves delved too greedily and too deep... you know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad Dum."

Though viewers had been led to believe that Sauron would finally make his presence felt during tonight's penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it was another of Morgoth's servants who ended up emerging from the darkness in the closing moments of "The Eye."

Major spoilers follow.

In episode 5, Gil-Galad recounts the tale of a battle between a mighty Elven warrior (possibly based on Glorfindel) and a Balrog. The pair fought over a tree which was believed to contain the last of the lost Silmarils. During their clash, lightning struck and drove the power of the jewels deep into the Misty Mountains, resulting in the creation of Mithril.

The Elven king believes this precious ore is the only thing that can restore the light of Ilúvatar to his race, and tasks Elrond with retrieving as much as he can from the Dwarf kingdom of Khazad Dum, so they might rejuvenate their immortal souls. Unfortunately, the King denies Elrond and Durin's request to mine Mithril.

Determined to save his friend, Durin decides to defy his father and begins to dig. They find a vast supply of the ore, but the King discovers what they're up to, banishing Elrond and stripping his son of his title. In the final scene, we learn that a Balrog has been awakened in the depths of Moria.

We don't get to see what damage the Flame of Udun inflicts on the Dwarves as the episode ends with the demonic creature letting out a thunderous roar, but there's a good chance "Durin's Bane" will earn his moniker in the season finale by putting an end to the fan-favorite Dwarf prince or his father. It was actually one of their descendants in the books, but the series is clearly condensing the timelines.

How do you guys see the season finale of The Rings of Power playing out? How do you feel about Moria's Balrog being introduced at this point in the story? Drop us a comment down below.

Tell me, where is Teleporno? For I much desire to speak with him.

This was awful. Halbrand is going to Eregion because we all know who he really is. And Galadriel is the instigator by which Sauron retakes his seat at the dark throne of Middle Earth. It is she who convinces him to return to the Southlands. And she even has moments of flirting with him??? Her rejection of him next week in the finale will be the straw that breaks the camels back. A redemptive Sauron fully takes up his role because of her rejection. Love it. Tolkien would be ASHAMED. PERIOD.

None of the main characters get killed by the Pompeii Volcano lol. Yikes. And a key turns on Mt Doom like a car. GENIUS.

McKay and Payne are [frick]ing hacks. This is Myster Box: the Live Action Series and its an embarrassment to the Professor and his work.

Look at the insane difference in characterization between Ryan Condol's writing in House of Dragon and this pathetic attempt at story telling. [frick]ing embarrassing.

Amazon spent all that money and this is the best they can come up with?

@AnthonyVonGeek - yes and it’s become pretty darn good.

And the money spent part has always been misleading. Nearly half of what they spent was just towards the rights. They are also building 5 seasons worth of sets.

@thewanderer - I’m glad you’re enjoying it but it’s been a disappointment for me.

This show sucks a**, I'm not even a book reader. The way Galadriel speaks is sooooooooo annoying, It didn't need to be Peter Jackson level good, maybe just as good as The Witcher which is like a 6/10. I think this show however is a 3/10

@pyramosteu - he cried because it was in that moment that he realized he has to return return season 2. It took us like 3 episodes for these faux-Numenoreans to decide to go to Middle Earth. Then after a fifteen minute Volcano scene they decide to go back home!!!!

Man people take this stuff way too seriously 😂 it's far from perfect, but I'm enjoying it for the most part. Love Elrond and Dúrin.

@RorMachine - some people are only happy if they’re miserable, and trying to make everyone around them miserable.

@RorMachine - exactly. All these things have to be is entertaining and Rings succeeds in that. House of Dragons, not so much. It’s a boring slog with characters that are no way interesting enough to support it’s talking heads format, unlike the original series. That show had little in terms of grand spectacle at first but what drew people in was that the characters were interesting and charismatic. Unlike the sullen bores in it now.

@John75 - you have to truly delude yourself to feel this story is compelling whilst HoD is a slog. We finally in ep 7 just got to the harfoots deciding to do literally ANYTHING. We took 3 episodes to get Numenor to go to Middle Earth and fifteen minutes in AND THEY ARE ALREADY GOING BACK LOL

@RorMachine - it’s enjoyable on its own merits. When taken as a piece of Tolkien mythos, it’s really bad. I am enjoying it well enough but it has been a disappointment of expectations on my end

This is Xena level of acting and script with a much bigger budget. The characters are boring, the script is a mess, the Harfoots plot is awful and even the action is soulless and feels small despite the big budget.
If Amazon wanted a mediocre fantasy show they should've created an original show and not butcher Tolkien's work.
