THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Episode 5 Promo Teases Adar's Siege, Warg Attacks, & More

Detailed spoilers for The Rings of Power episode 4 follow.

The latest episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, "The Great Wave," is now streaming, and Prime Video (via SFFGazette) has shared a brief, but action-packed preview of next Friday's instalment.

This week, we learned a little more about the mysterious Adar (you'll find our theories here), who definitely seems to be some sort of corrupted Elf. The villainous Orc leader sends Arondir back to the watchtower of Ostirith to give Bronwyn and her people a message: surrender or die. Based on what we see here, it looks like they will choose to fight, and Adar prepares to launch his attack.

Back at Númenor, Halbrand is hesitant to follow Galadriel and Queen Regent Míriel back to the place he's been trying so desperately to leave behind. We still think this wayward King of the Southlands will ultimately become the Witch King of Angmar (more on that here), but it looks like his Elven companion will succeed in convincing him to return home to combat Sauron's encroaching forces.

Episode 5 will also bring us up to speed on The Harfoot migration, and it looks like Nori and her folk are going to fall foul of a pack of Wargs. Something tells us "The Stranger" will step in to lend a helping hand, proving his worth to the rest of the tribe in the process.

The Rings of Power has been a pretty slow build, for sure, but it looks like things are going to heat up as our scattered heroes unite to combat the threat of Sauron.

Check out the promo below, and let us know what you thought of episode 4 in the comments.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power stars Morfydd Clark, Benjamin Walker, Charles Edwards, Charlie Vickers, Markella Kavenagh, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Tyroe Muhafidin, Maxim Baldry, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Leon Wadham, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

I am a huge LOTR fan (Jackson's trilogy) but this is a nothing show. Looks pretty and that's about it.

Barely made it past the first 3 episodes. Boring story, characters, zero Sauron and forgettable score.

Has NOTHING on Jackson's trilogy and I wished it was set in his universe.

@kylo0607 -

Money is no substitute for bad writing and bad directing.🥲

Shows been very good so far. Looks amazing. Good amount of lore. Characters are building nicely. Can’t wait for more.

@Gmoney84 - agreed, I’m really enjoying it and it looks like next week we are going to start seeing storylines intersect.

Looked crap from the trailers, ended up being crap.

It looks like they are going to bin off "ignore" much of the original text, or at least reimagine it to the point that it no longer resembles it. They are talking about the fall Numenor, but for that to happen Souron needs to be in Numenor at some point and some of the other elements maybe far too fantastical to put on screen. Or at the very least the lore will become too complicated with no back story.

@FASELI - Sauron is in Numenor. You just haven't realized it yet. Worse yet. Galadriel is too stupid to realize it.

@McMurdo - Well I have realised it, but that seems to obvious even though he's a manipulator, liar and blacksmith. To follow the arc he has to be him. A lot of people are suggesting he's someone else, or character X is Sauron....but I think a lot of these other readings of it thus far are from people not familiar with the text.

I hear it's a slow burn, so I'm waiting for the season to end so I can binge it

@bobevanz - not a slow burn just slow. Dull.

@bobevanz - same here. The general response to this also helps me establish some expectations for when I finally get around to watching it

I'm loving the show. It has a nice slow build

@smgmayhem - absolutely agree. They’ve obviously compressed the time hopefully it slows down after season one. The character development has been fantastic in my opinion

Given the vociferous backlash, I expect Amazon to not try to make another LOTR series again. So.... win?

@Itwasme - I’ve actually seen a lot more positive than negative even from diehard Tolkien fans so hopefully Amazon continues this wonderful show despite some whinny-ass, disgruntled Neck-Beards
Itwasme
Itwasme - 9/18/2022, 6:00 PM
@narrow290 - hopefully. Critique is fine, but the highly emotional response is ridiculous. If it keeps up in the end no one will want to touch the IP and then what are these "fans" achieving?

I’ve already checked out on this show and stopped watching. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan….but this ain’t it.

I’m hoping people will let me know if it gets better but right now it really isn’t following tolkiens lore and is just a high priced, generic piece of fantasy.

LOVE this show! it's wonderful and engaging. beautiful to look at and is building on a great foundation. it is Tolkien's world. people need to stop comparing it to the LOTR films which were not flawless and also took liberties. the Hobbit films were just a mess. RoP is fantastic so far!
