EP Marc Guggenheim On ARROW Season 2

"The second season [of Arrow] I think is bigger and it's a bit more focused in terms of the storytelling," said Guggenheim. He also stated that the storylines for all supporting characters will become more closely tied to Oliver's (Stephen Amell) central story. Episode 5 also gets a new title.

While discussing his upcoming Punisher comic book for Marvel Comics with Aint It Cool News, executive producer Marc Guggenheim painted some broad strokes for Arrow Season 2. Said the former lawyer, "I'll tell you, the show has actually gotten bigger. Which, quite frankly, if you'd asked me last year if I thought that was possible, I'd have told you "No", because we were really straining at the bit just to produce the show given the time and budget that we have, but everyone's come back and we're really firing on all cylinders." He continued, "The second season I think is bigger and it's a bit more focused in terms of the storytelling. We've made a variety of different character changes; Tommy's death, and also the various changes we've made to Laurel's status quo, and Thea's status quo, will basically connect those characters more to Oliver's world. Same thing is true for Felicity, so that everything is revolving around Oliver in a much tighter way than it was last year. Last year we would occasionally end up with characters siloed off in their own stories, either Thea and Moira, or Tommy and Laurel. And this year, the narrative of the show has gotten a lot more focused. And I think it's made for stronger, better episodes."

Good news for fans of the show as more than a few viewers did note that the plot direction for some of Arrow's auxiliary cast in season one were taking viewers far from where they wanted to be, with Oliver on the island and with his crime fighting alter-ego in present day Starling City. With stronger connections to Oliver and Green Arrow, we should be spending less time away from the buttkicking in Arrow season 2.

We also have an update via GreenArrowTV and confirmed by Guggenehim and the Arrow writers on twitter that the title for episode 5 of Season 2 is League of Assassins not The Demon's Head, as was previously reported. That makes the likelihood of an appearance or mention of Ra's al Ghul a little less certain but it remains a high possibility. Of course, there's also a chance that other League members could be the focus, possibly Lady Shiva as her adoptive daughter, Sin, played by Bex Taylor-Klaus, will maker her Arrow season 2 debut in one of the early episodes.

When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

I love this show and I'm super glad that its been a success... I was a die hard fan of Smallville too and Arrow is treading territory that Smallville took 6 seasons to build up to... I really like how the deeper DCU mythology is becoming more important as the show goes on and I like that they're getting to the good stuff right away. I mean ep 5 of season 2 is League of Assassins already? Damn, that's cool lol I will admit those 4 or 5 first episodes were a little uneven but the show really got better from then all the way to its stunning finale. This plus SHIELD and all the other great movies and games coming plus the actually books! Man it's good to be a geek nowadays!...

Well there you go: league of assassins not league of shadows, which means no Nolanverse connection. So this either confirms that arrow isn't part if the DCCU or that bake isn't coming back.

Lady Shiva - that's great, she was the best DC character in "Birds of Prey" 2002 tv-series, she must be in "Arrow" too.

Re-introduse everything, Jason Issacs as a live action Ra's Al Ghul! He already has the "detective" down. And with the right hair, make-up, and training...

@nibs do it! i fcking hated smallville and i was terrified when arrow came out since it's the same people and i love green arrow so much but it's really good! i mean, don't go in with the highest expectations because it /is/ a cw show lol but it's a pretty fcking awesome one if you let a few changes slip. i'm a huntress fan and i hated that they could've show her differently and not as a villain because helena isn't one, ultimately, but i loved her in the show anyway and all the changes they did made sense in this universe so it's pretty cool yeah.
