POLL: Have The Negative Reviews Put You Off Seeing Green Lantern?

Despite a few positive comments here and there, the critical response to Green Lantern so far has been almost entirely negative. Has this caused you to rethink whether or not you'll watch the movie this Friday? Vote here...

As I write this, Green Lantern currently sits on Rotten Tomatoes at 20% based on 30 reviews. However, 95% of people still want to see the movie according to the site. While the critics often have little impact on the box office takings (just look at the financial success of the panned sequel, The Hangover II) it's bound to have some sort of effect, even if it's just a small one. The question is, has it made you reconsider seeing Green Lantern this coming Friday? Will you now be waiting a couple of weeks to get a better idea of what regular movie-goers make of it, or skipping it altogether? As comic book fans, do you even care what the critics say about an adaptation such as this one? Here's your chance to vote!

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this month!

No, I will still see it, I like the character. I can make my own judgement on the film. I have yet to see a review that points out something many of us wouldn't have known would be bad. Like the artificial look of the CGI, I already expected it to be. But doesn't mean it won't entertain me. After all, this is the first time Green Lantern's been on the big screen, I'd be missing out.

No, I'd likely see it anyways. Living at least an hour away from the closest theater that might show it, on the other hand, will keep me at home and waiting for the DVD.

Still going to see it. Like I said critics are saying that this fan is for people familar with the Green Lantern universe but will find trouble with the general audience. This movie will probally make its money back but I guarentee you that the sequel will get a new writer and will look much different from this one.

I'm going to hear what "normal people" say about it first. I don't always agree with critics, but when this many of them say it's this bad, they're usually right about a film. I'll consider seeing it, but not if it really is as bad as people claim. When it's compared to Starship Troopers, Judge Dredd, and Battlefield Earth, that's a very bad sign :/

At the moment it looks like Batman and Superman is going to run DC for the next few years as usual. lol No complaint but good grief. Thats the thing about DC characters individualy they are hard to sell. Such as Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. Thats the main reason you see so many justice Leauge, Batman, and Superman animated films while the others just get the 5min showcases. Their villan rouges gallery are not that good but together when formed as the Justice Leauge its pure awsomeness. Maybe thats why DC is moving forward with a JLA movie rather than giving each character their own movie.

I will still see it because if it is still bad, I can at least give it a fair criticism. I guess I also have to, I did see Last Airbender last summer, could not be worse than that movie.

Also to the reference to Hangover 2, that was an unnecessary sequel really, people saw it cause they loved the first one, but it was the same recycled stuff, nothing new in the sequel.

I couldn't care less about reviews... I've been waiting too long for this movie to happen. I'll be the only one deciding whether this movie is good or not because my opinion is the only one that matters to me. If it sucks, oh well. If I like it...yay for me.

You should NEVER take what a "critic" has to say into consideration- especially on Rotten Tomatoes. 'I Love you, man' and 'True Grit' are certified fresh and certified overrated. But I'll admit, a 20% rating upon opening is pretty bad. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a movie or thought a movie was okay with that low a rating. I might have some RT 35%ers in my DVD collection but, usually if a rating is below 30%, we agree. Still, the critics are dubious and often review with malice, so of course I'm going to see it.

Still going to watch the movie because it looks amazing. There have been so many movies that get bad reviews but still turn out awsome. And the reviews for this movie havent been very good. Too much whining.

I won't watch it but not because of the critics. I use the critic review as a base to what I think the movie is all about. when it comes to rotten tomatoes rating somewhere between 1% to %30 is something not worth seeing in theaters. When it is something 40$ to 100% then I will go watch it. But if I hear that the movie is only good because of one character of the movie I would watch it on DVD. DVD movies are usually the movies I watch if it got a 30% or little bit higher. Hopefully Green Lantern will make enough money so there can be a Wonder Woman and Flash movie.

I never trust reviews for games or movies. Web of Shadows got pretty bad reviews, I enjoyed it. Clash of the Titans got horrible reviews, I enjoyed it. Case in point, I will see this film, but I don't think it's going to be that great if the first trailer's any indication.

I will still see this no matter what the critics say, I will judge for myself. But what I have read from most of the reviews is that the reason they dont like it is because they think Hal Jordan is too Cocky and never shows humility like what happened to Thor in his movie. Who cares the character is cocky in the comic especially when he was younger. Why is it Hollywood always wants heroes to be humbled or humiliated or be flawed? It was the same thing with their gripes Battle: Los Angles.

i'm going to the midnight showing tomorrow.
the critics won't put me off.
but they are maing me very wary of Green Lantern.
why?

lets face facts:
DC/WB aren't that fond of making movies out of their own comics. they believe that only Batman and Superman can sell. sure we get the occasional Watchmen but half of their films are comparable to Catwoman and Jonah Hex.

Green Lantern may be the FIRST real CBM from WB unrelated to Batman or Superman to make it big. i want this movie to make it. i have faith in the director and the effects look great most of the time. only the mask bugs me.

i am hoping that the critics are wrong again. and that Green Lantern is not only an enjoyable film, but that it paves the way for even better DC films based off of their lesser known characters.

Personally I think that Green Lantern wasn't a good choice as a start to branch off of the usual Batman and Superman movies. They could of start off with wonder woman who is completely over due for a movie and a good one. then do flash and then green lantern. After that have the justice league movie then everyone will be happy.

lol

I have decided quite firmly that I WILL see it at least once no matter what the critics say.

But I am a bit wary now. I may be inclined to be a bit more critical of the experience than I was.

The reviews haven't filled me with confidence, but they haven't put me off!

From the few I've read so far it seems the critics don't seem to get the idea and mythos of the green lantern. Maybe it's too complicated to follow for the average movie viewer (I doubt it), or possibly there's just too much to fit in within the time given, but more often than not it seems to be that they are not connecting with hal as a character. I mean you compare hotshot ace pilot, with good looks and confidence overload to say ... Peter Parker young nerdy dweeb with no parents and not much going for him and people feel for him, or even batman, yeah the guys loaded and good looking, but man the kid messed himself up after his parents death, so people root for him and relate to the characters feeling of loss, guilt, revenge etc!

I'm not hating on GL one bit and don't admit to knowing alot about him, but I can see why people maybe a bit confused as to why he gets to have super powers.

But I'm still gonna go see it!

Destroyer14 Web of Shadows wanted to be Arkham Asylum in a lot of the game play. Some of it was fun, but after a while it doesn't really go anywhere. I didn't even finish playing it.

Oh yeah, [frick] critics.

If this movie bombs you can forget about seeing Flash anytime soon. If a movie as spectacular and epic looking as GL can't get people leaving theatres feeling good, then I don't see how a movie about a dude who can run real fast is going to do any better. Might as well go with Aquaman. GL is going to kick ass. There's no way it can't. Critics are stupid. Comic book movies aren't like your typical films. The things that critics look for just aren't that important to a comic book movie. We want to see characters we already know looking like they do in the comics and kicking some serious ass with crazy super powers. I don't give a shit personally about their inner demons and "struggle finding themselves in a world that won't accept them". Character development my ass. They've already been developed over 60 years of print. Screw you critics. Criticize my sack.

I've seen a lot of really bad Batman movies so I'll guess I'll see this too even though my expectations are extremely low. I can live with bad cgi but I cannot forgive a bad script. Most CBM's have failed miserably in the script department.

Hi guys. Long time reader, first time poster.

I went to a special screening of the movie earlier today at Odeon West End. Im not a huge fan of Green Lantern. I knew little to nothing about the character when the trailer was released back in October. I read a little bit on Wikipedia afterwards to understand the basics. Never read a Green Lantern comic before.

I had a read of some of the reviews before i went and they all pretty much summed up the film to be a bit of a disappointment and not great. So i didnt go in with high hopes of it being a great CBM.

I thought the movie was good. It's not as bad as some of the critics are saying it is but its also not the greatest CBM. I went with a friend who had no idea what the movie was about. He liked it and thought the CGI was impressive (which i thought loooked pretty good in 3D and i dont really like 3D movies). He's not a comic book fan at all. A lot of the people who went to watch it seemed to have enjoyed it (old and young alike). There were a couple of GL fan boys sitting behind me who thought the movie could have been better but they werent disappointed with the outcome.

I didnt like the mask though. The suit was fine.

Critics are good for getting a general idea but at the end of the day you can only decide if the movie is good or bad if you watch it yourself. For me Green Lantern was a good movie. I am just hoping that it works for DC so they can get a Flash movie and other DC characters onto the big screen.
