GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2: Why Sean Gunn Portrays Rocket On Set; Four New Banners Released

Bradley Cooper may provide Rocket with his vocal snark, but on set, it's Sean Gunn doing the performance work. Director James Gunn has now explained why his brother is necessary for the role.

While Rocket Raccoon's signature sarcastic attitude and voice is provided by Bradley Cooper in Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel, the entirety of the physical performance is based off of Sean Gunn, brother of director James Gunn. Many reports have referred to Sean as a stand-in actor for the part, which his brother has now refuted and explained in a recent live chat on his Facebook page.

“Sean Gunn is not a stand-in. He is a motion reference actor. That means we film everything Sean does on set as Rocket. We film it," James said. "I don’t stop doing takes of him until we get the performance right and then we use that performance as a basis for much of Rocket’s acting. And he does a fantastic job in that role. He knows it. He understands it. And also very important, Sean is able to physically do something most actors aren’t able to do, which is waddle around on all fours. He’s always been an incredibly limber guy that can to do a lot of strange physical things. And the fact that he’s able to waddle around on his legs all day long at the exact height of Rocket is quite a feat and quite quite difficult."

In addition, four new promotional banners have been released, which you can check out below. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 hits theatres on May 5, 2017.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

I want to see Howard the Duck interacting with Rocket and the other Guardians, then with Earth-based heroes, especially Spider-Man. I need it in my life.
Please?

It's pretty much a package deal by now - you hire James Gunn, and you'll get Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker as well. So far I'm not complaining.

It's because he gets excited about it and owns the role. I doubt Bradley Cooper would want to want around on his knees or whatever crouched position that Sean Gunn is in during these scenes. So ultimately, Sean would do a better job because he's not above it.
