As our favorite crew of intergalactic A-holes gear-up for their "final tour" on May 5, Marvel Studios has shared another 30-second TV spot for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The promo contains quite a bit of new footage, with new shots of Gamora and some mysterious alien companions (she's rumored to have fallen in with a group of Ravagers after the events of Avengers: Endgame), Nebula's arm-canon, and more of Star-Lord bickering with Drax for treating a couch like a bed.

We also get a new quick new glimpse of Will Poulter's Adam Warlock as he prepares to blast an unfortunate enemy.

"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

I was hoping this would be a decent sendoff for the original Guardians and that this might be the movie to pull the MCU out of it's slump, but the more I've seen of it, the more mediocre it looks.

@Feralwookiee - If I'm really honest... while I love Gunn's work, the trailers for the other two installments were much better.

@Feralwookiee -

I hear ya. From the trailers, it looks like it leans more toward Thor 4 than GotG 1. Hopefully it's misdirection. And I REALLY hope Warlock isn't a one and done Malekith type.

@Unites - I hated number 2 and still think it had the best promotional trailers of all the mcu films!

@Feralwookiee - they're really only showing the "funny" parts in the promos. Remember this movie is the longest guardians movie. And it's to be theist emotional. There's SO much of it we haven't seen yet

@Vigor - The problem for me has been all these "funny" clips have seemed very flat like most of the humor in Vol. 2.

I hope I'm wrong, but from what I've seen so far it doesn't look very good.

@DocSpock - I wouldn't be surprised if he's a one-off and he's just made out to be a "joke" character.

@Feralwookiee - I always felt that these trailers and the Ant Man 3 trailers looked eerily similar.

@Feralwookiee -

And on a similar note, it looks like they are going to make that A$$hat Borat guy as jokey Mephisto thereby throwing away another great Marvel villain.

@DocSpock - I hope not. I know it's still just a rumor right now, so I kinda hope it stays that way.

But, if they actually do go with Cohen as Mephisto, hopefully he plays it mainly straight. I just wouldn't be able to deal with literal Satan as a joke. 😐

@Feralwookiee -

Like they already gave us fat lispy goofball Zeus.

@DocSpock - So, about that. I was going to post something the other day on the article about Russel Crow saying that he's likely to return as Zeus or whatever, and here are my thoughts/theories:

First off, I'm not a Marvel apologist or anything (I shouldn't have to point that out but you know how some people can be on this site). I also thought that Crow's portrayal of Zeus (and the rest of the folks at Omnipotence City) was a little over the top and I was prepared to write it off as Waititi just taking the goofiness a little too far, but then there was that credits stinger. I found myself thinking about this when I was out doing yard work the other day (yes, I generally either think about this stuff or Computer Science stuff, so you should be glad that you didn't mention generative AI (my parents made the mistake of asking me about ChatGPT last night and I pretty sure that after the first 5 minutes of my diatribe they set the phone down and came back like 15 minutes later)), and I think that there might be more to how they were portrayed than what we saw (follow me here).

So first of all, now that we have been introduced to a whole bunch of new gods in the MCU (primarily the Greek and Egyptian gods in addition to the Asgardians), logically Marvel would want a way for us to differentiate between them, which makes sense. The Asgardians seem to be pretty serious and warrior-like, and generally don't deal with magic a whole lot (except for Loki and his mom). The Egyptians, on the other hand, from what we've seen in "MK" seem to be much more mystical/magical, not to mention their whole thing with anthropomorphic animals. So that bring us to the Greeks, which were basically portrayed as obnoxious party animals (basically a diety version of "Animal House" with Zeus as Bluto). Which I was fine with, although I was hoping for something more substantial (I mean, hell, even Delta House got their shit together when it was time to go on the offensive).

But then that credits stinger made me think otherwise. Because while the Greek gods are known for their wine and revelry, they're also know for their vengeance (as far as I can recall, but hell how about Prometheus having his liver eaten out daily while chained to a mountain - eesh). And that stinger made me think that there's a dark side to Zeus and Hercules at least, and that frat guy schtick is a public persona for his followers, but there's something more nefarious afoot.

This could be the foundation of the next (and probably last) Thor movie (for now). If you think about, so far the gods in the MCU have been pretty humanity-friendly (except for Loki), and what we haven't seen in the MCU so far is an actual gods vs. humanity war, something that could have been set up in "Thor 4" with Zeus and the other Greek gods going to war against humanity because of Zeus' hurt widdle feewings about not being respected anymore.

I think we saw a taste of this with that stinger, and it wouldn't surprise me if after watching the original cut of "Thor 4" Feige said something to Waititi like "Yeah I like it, but I want to add something at the end which sets the Greek gods up as possible antagonists for a future movie", resulting in the stinger. Remember that it was filmed remotely with Crow back in AU (if I remember correctly).

Anyhow, this could be the case or it could be the case of beer that I just finished 😉. Only time will tell. Cheers!

@StSteven -

Those are good points. I hope you're right.

StSteven
StSteven - 4/18/2023, 7:13 PM
@DocSpock - Well I'd like to think that even if those weren't the original intentions with those gods (especially Zeus), Feige & Co. listened to the feedback from the fans and will right the ship in this aspect (as he seems to be doing in a lot of other MCU aspects these days, now that Iger is back and is seemingly giving Kevin control back as well as them scaling things back more so that Kevin has the capacity to pay more attention to aspects like how the gods are being handled). But like with all things, time will tell. Even though, they probably don't have any immediate plans for the gods (that we know of) so they have plenty of time to decide how to handle them moving forward.
DocSpock
DocSpock - 4/18/2023, 8:55 PM
@StSteven -

Very true. I imagine all focus right now is on Majors. If they dump him, they should just go with the comics accurate mask so we don't need to see the actor. Replace him with a black voice actor & mo-cap guy, and don't look back.

I too would love to see a serious Zeus.(And Thor for that matter)
StSteven
StSteven - 4/19/2023, 6:09 PM
@DocSpock - I would imagine that regarding Majors everything is on hold until more definitive info about his case comes out so that Disney knows which way to go. They probably won't wait until every "t" is crossed and "I" is dotted on whatever the settlement or whatever happens happens, but once it's pretty clear who was in the wrong and what actually happened they'll decide how to move forward.

Regarding Zeus (and the other Greek gods in general), like I was saying I think that that stinger scene gave us a good idea that when Big Daddy Zeus want to get serious, he'll get SERIOUS, especially as he was talking about sending Hercules to make an example out of Thor and make the people of Earth respect the gods once again, which sounds almost like reining hellfire kinda shit.

Which actually sets Zeus up to potentially be the main villain in the next Thor movie. I'm thinking of duplicitous characters who are all "party-party" to the public, but behind the scenes they're like "kill them all". Kinda reminds me of Jack's Joker in Batman '89. He was a clown in public who danced around to Prince music and gave out free money to the masses, but then tried to poison everyone. I'm not saying that Marvel will go to that extreme with Zeus, but they definitely laid the seeds for him to be a very duplicitous character along those lines. And then you can have Hercules at first carrying out his father's orders but then becoming conflicted and ultimately turning against his father and helping Thor to defeat him and eventually taking Thor's place on the Avengers while Thor retires to being King Thor. There you go. Perfect "Thor 5" movie.😊

Man, I so wish that would happen.
StSteven
StSteven - 4/20/2023, 3:58 PM
@DocSpock - Well, you never know. At this point I'm going to be optimistic that like I said above, now that leadership has changed at Disney hopefully they can right the ship with some of the things that the fans are most concerned about (which I'm sure Kevin & co. are WELL aware of), so we'll see. Only time will tell. Well, time and of course the folks with the crystal balls (man, where can I get a set of those?) who've looked into the future and decided that the MCU is on its way out, will be dead in a few years, etc. Them and time.

Kevin Feige possibly seeking "more experienced filmmakers for upcoming #MCU projects." Why did it take so long?

Spielberg for "Hellcow", Scorsese for "Doctor Bong", Christopher Nolan for "Paste-Pot Pete."

@Ryguy88 - Yeah, behind the scenes, the pressure must be immense. A company like Disney/Marvel loses money and they immediately start 'cleaning house'. But nine, solid episodes of 'WandaVision', 40+ 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', 2 episodes of 'Game of Thrones' can't hurt his CV. A successful FF movie was always going to be a big challenge.
