Now everybody knows I’m a big Hellboy fan. Hellboy is without a doubt my second favorite superhero behind Batman. When I first saw the first Hellboy film, I was blown away. There wasn’t a thing I didn’t like. The reason I like Hellboy over others is that Hellboy is like if you have Wolverine, Hulk, and Spider-Man into one. He can be funny and joke at times, he can be savage and just go off at times, and he is misunderstood and not accepted at times just because he is different. Hellboy also has a dark past like Batman, Wolverine and others. Everybody knows I want to see Hellboy 3. I haven’t been able to come up with an article for the film without expressing pure bias opinion and be over passionate. Lately we’ve had many articles about the cancellation Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice and why they should be saved. I’m not going to smash you guys that wrote those articles but the problem with your articles is that you guys put your fanboy passion into it and you don’t put any logical or facts into it and if you do, you don’t explore those facts and logical. That is one of the reasons I haven’t written a Hellboy article but now I have finally got ideas on why Hellboy 3 should happen. Here is why I think there should be a Hellboy 3 film.

There you have it, every superhero series with the total averages from Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Take it away Kanye:

Now some people may say that Marvel movies have made more money than Hellboy’s films but at the same time Alice In Wonderland and Transformers: Dark of the Moon made more than Jurassic Park, Gladiator, Django Unchained and many other great movies. Does that mean there better? No. People may say that I can’t pair all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films into one but at the same time, in the top box office franchises it says “Marvel Cinematic Universe” not Iron Man or others. If we talk just indiviaual films than Hellboy films has been more praised than superheroes like Captain America, Hulk, Thor, X-Men, Green Lantern, Blade, and Fantastic Four. Hellboy is one of the least popular superheroes on this list and yet he has a series that has been more critical praised so far than anything Marvel put out and most of what DC has put out and Hellboy is neither a Marvel nor DC. I’m not dissing Marvel but most people keep saying how they are the only ones to put out superhero films and praise them. Just goes to show how great the Hellboy film series is. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. Hellboy is one of the best.

Ron Perlman Isn’t Getting Any Younger

Last year, we lost a great actor with Michael Clarke Duncan. Michael Clarke Duncan was an amazing actor and he was loved by most comic book fans due to his appearances and incredible performances as Kingpin in Daredevil, Manute in Sin City, and Kilowag in Green Lantern. While those performances are loved, none are as legendarily as his performance in The Green Mile. Michael Clarke Duncan passed way too soon. Comic fans have always wanted to see him as Killer Croc in a Batman movie, Apocalypse in a X-Men movie, and Darkseid in a Justice League movie. Clarke was perfect for all the roles due to not only his voice but his physical appearance.

Now I talked about Michael Clarke Duncan because Ron Perlman is getting old. Perlman is 62 years old right now. I don’t want Perlman to get too old to play Hellboy or to pass away too soon like Clarke. Perlman is Hellboy. Ron Perlman as Hellboy would be like if you gave Christian Bale Kevin Conroy’s voice. Perlman has portrayed Hellboy in everything Hellboy related. Live action films, animated films, video games, Make-A-Wish dreams, Perlman was Hellboy. The man is Hellboy and we should have him portray Hellboy one last time, to end the trilogy before it’s too late.

Bruce Campbell As Lobster Johnson

For those of you that don’t know, Lobster Johnson is a character in the Hellboy universe who is a vigilante that worked in secret in New York City during the 1930s. The Lobster was a real man who faced gangsters as well as paranormal threats. The Lobster had a reputation for violence, such as killing mobsters and burning his trademark lobster claw symbol into their foreheads with the palm of his gloved hand. Lobster did not appear in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army due to Mike Mignola's wish to remain true to the character's origin. Del Toro has stated that Johnson may appear in Hellboy III and that he wants Bruce Campbell to play him. Campbell voiced The Lobster as the secret character in Hellboy: Science of Evil video game which Del Toro worked on. Having The Lobster in Hellboy 3 would be amazing and having Campbell play him would only make it better.

Hellboy And Liz Sherman’s Twins

While some fans didn’t like this, I enjoyed it. I know that Liz and Hellboy have more of a brother-sister relationship in the comics but I liked how they were lovers in the movies. It adds depth to Hellboy and shows a more human element to him. While I was shocked, you can’t tell me you would want to know what their twins would look like.

The End of the World

One reason as to why Hellboy 3 is expensive is because everything has been leading up to this, Hellboy his facing his destiny. Hellboy is supposed to be the destroyer of the world. He has been fighting this throughout the film series. We see a lot of elements of this in the first film and some smaller elements of this in the second film. Having Hellboy face his destiny and wondering what will happen would be one epic story and of course one would need money to create.

How Can You Say No To This Kid?

A couple months again, JoshWilding reported a story about how a Make-A-Wish kid called Zachary wish came true. Zachary's wish was to meet Hellboy and also to become Hellboy. The Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted Spectral Motion with the kid’s request. Mike thought it would be fantastic to have Ron Perlman reprise his role for the day. Ron loved the idea and donned the makeup once more and also ordered a Hellboy sized meal of burgers, shakes, and fries for Zachary and his family and the entire Spectral crew to enjoy. Later in the day, Zachary was transformed into Hellboy with the assistance of makeup artists Lufeng Qu and Neil Winn. Now this story surely touched everybody’s hearts. After this happened, Del Toro came out to say that he wants to try to make Hellboy 3 a possibility again.

So there you have it. Why I think Hellboy 3 needs to happen. Hellboy may not be the most popular superhero or well known but he deserves his chance to finish his trilogy. Who knows; maybe if Hellboy 3 is great, it will be more acclaimed than Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. Wouldn’t that be a shocker? I hope Hellboy 3 happens and if it does I will be there opening day. If Del Toro can’t still get it, maybe if they add a certain extra character into the script of the film and if it is alright with WB’s we could see this happening:

A man can dream right? What are your thoughts? Do you think Hellboy 3 should happen or not? Comment below. I now leave you with Hellboy and Ape singing “Can’t Smile Without You.” Peace.

@levi being objective or logical and asking for a threquel of a movie which made : Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $75,986,503    47.4%
+ Foreign:  $84,401,560    52.6%
= Worldwide:  $160,388,063
With a Production Budget of $85 million
U do know that movies have to get their money back plus profit domestically to start talking about a sequel right? All money gathered overseas is spread and the studio does not get that much of a profit. Now getting a threequel just because u get Good numbers on rotten tomatoes is like saying that JOseph GOrdon LEvit should be our next Batman because TDKR did well on rotten tomatoes!!!!!! Then saying that you should even considering green light a movie by saying that main star is getting older is like fan biased right? Sorry man, but I guess what u meant to write is that Hell BOy is one if the greatest independent comic books with a great widwspread distribution through DArk HOrse and according to me its only hope is Maybe a reboot. :)

Liked by critics and money making are two different things. Especially with the websites you mentioned. Hellboy doesn't pay the bills. There is not a big enough market for him.
kenjim152
kenjim152 - 2/2/2013, 2:50 PM
@jessepostal not necesarily, if blade has a market then hell BOy does have a market. Correct me if I am wrong, but just Spawn and Hellboy are the only independent comics that have survived since they started been published and that is a big goal to be achieved!!! There is a market for hell BOy as long as it is not that pretentious.
jessepostal
jessepostal - 2/2/2013, 3:51 PM
@kenjim, I didn't say they didn't have a market, I said they don't have a big market in the movie world, why make hellboy and break even and waste two years of your life when u can do something the masses want and make X times the amount you put out. Hellboy makes its money back, but this title will make its money three times over, get what I'm saying?
jessepostal
jessepostal - 2/2/2013, 3:57 PM
@levi, there is a market for everything, but with hellboys market there is a lot of money involved because its a movie, it's a business, they are not gonna waste resources on a movie that's not gonna make money, the economy ruined a lot of things in entertainment. From what your saying, sure it can be made, but the budget is gonna be very low, are you gonna be happy with that? And will it do hellboy justice? Remember its a business, they are out to make money not lose it, is it worth the chance? It's a big risk, do they wanna waste the time on a chance or invest in something bigger

kenjim152 - 2/2/2013, 7:14 PM
@jessepostal dude of course I get it. What I meant is that Hellboy both movies were 2 expensive 4 what they were. I guess that one problem comicbook movies have is that they all want to be this huge blockbusters , they are all 2 pretentious!!! Had Hell BOy been meant to its fanbase and possible public it might have gotten a lot more money and we might have gotten the full Trilogy already . :)

I look at it this way: if "Saw" can manage SEVEN movies on a consecutively annual basis, why can't Hellboy get a third? If "Battleship" can be made into a movie, if "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer" can have a wide release, if "GI: Joe" can spawn a sequel, why can't Hellboy III be in production?

Our big problem is with the only man we trust to bring it to the big screen - he just can't commit.

I'm sorry to say but, Hellboy 3 would kill the franchise unless they come up with an excellent story for the simple reason that Liz being pregnant doesn't help things, let alone twins. There is no way (that I have came up with) they could do a third without falling to the curse. So, I'm actually glad Hellboy 3 isn't happening cause the second ended perfectly.
EdgyOutsider
EdgyOutsider - 2/3/2013, 9:33 AM
Levi: think about it. Had they saved Hellboy: The Golden Armies ending for the third (the twins) it would have been a perfect closer. That being said, because of the fact that it ended the way it did, even if they would come out with a third, I really wouldn't have confidence in the third because we know the twins would be thrown in part of the plot as well and it doesn't sound like it would be the Hellboy 3 I've been wanting. Again, had they saved the ending of the second for the third, I would say it could have been the best cbm trilogy. It's not that I don't want one cause I don't want it, I don't want one cause I don't want to have another Spider-Man 3 or Batman & Robin. You see where I am coming from?
EdgyOutsider
EdgyOutsider - 2/3/2013, 10:30 AM
It does sound really good. The turn off for me is the whole rescue mission idea to save Liz and the Kids. That has always been one of the biggest reasons I'd be turned off at the idea of a third Hellboy.

@Lev...your logic is flawed, my friend. You cannot "average" a series ratings and expect to have an accurate result for your comparative argument. The more films in a series clearly lowers its average!

Besides, you rely on RT far too much; the average movie goer doesn't rate films on RT, so it's not an accurate source to begin with.

@Battlin I agree with everything you said about singer except superman returns. Superman returns is in my opinion a misfire from singer, it tries to homage donnors movies to the point where it just becomes a rehash and doesn't have any identity of its own, and is relying on nostalgia. And they're are 2 things about that movie that bug me to death. 1) I'm not buying that superman would just up and leave without telling anyone. And 2) Superman doesn't throw a single punch in the movie. I know it's been said to death but it's true. We live in an age where we can have epic comic book fights so there is no excuses for one of the most popular and one of the most powerful superheroes to not be fighting something that can physically challenge him. I'm all for a character study of superman, heck one of my favourite CBMs of all time spider-man 2 is a great character study, but it's also a fantastic action movie as well. Singer had some great ideas and the best of intentions but the wrong execution.
Spideyguy94
Spideyguy94 - 2/3/2013, 2:44 PM
@Battlin Yes superman could obliterate anything he punches. Which is why instead of rehasing the lex luthor real estate scam we seen in superman 1 he should of used a villain that can take a punch from superman i.e. brainiac, doomsday or metallo. Superman would not just leave earth abruptly for 5 years without telling anyone why, its out of character with the superman in 1&2. A movie shouldn't rely on the could be sequels that might happen, because what if it doesn't make enough money like this movie did than concentrate on making it stand alone, establish that superman can still make big money at the box office then use whatever big plans you have in the sequel.

@LEVI Returns is a sequel to 1&2 and disregards 3&4 it's not a prequel.
Spideyguy94
Spideyguy94 - 2/3/2013, 3:12 PM
@LEVITIKUZ No they don't and even if they were, they don't match up at all considering superman and lois' son jason was created for returns and isn't in 3&4

@Sotojuiceman I think u are right with that one, Singer got complete artistic freedom and no one and o mean no one was expecting Batman Begins. Singer was not ready to make a supes movie just because no one else was ready back then not even WB. Singer ended supes donner series which was something Good for everyone, because as u said everybody has seen supes 1 and 2 and everyone was expecting a film like those ones, son Singer made this awful movie that made everybody ask for something else not the 70s version of supes an thanx god Sunger failed so we could get man of steel, cause we need Donner,s vision no more, :)

The 2 Hellboy movie are really good fun. Never read the comic but I enjoy the movies, Del Toro his a super good director. Still I don't know what I want to see more HB3 or Dark Universe. Also Del Toro would be a good choice for The Batman reboot. Nice article man!
