Paramount Officially Moving Forward With WORLD WAR Z Sequel

World War Z surprisingly had a solid opening at the box office this weekend, and reports confirm that Paramount Pictures is definitely moving forward with a sequel to the Brad Pitt zombie thriller.

Paramount Pictures' World War Z opened with $66M domestically and $111.8M worldwide this weekend, marking Brad Pitt's highest box office debut to date. This is an impressive feat for the $190M zombie thriller, many thought would be one of the biggest box office failures of the year. Last year, the movie's final act was heavily reconstructed, with a couple of writers hired and the film undergoing several weeks of reshoots. This pushed its original release date from December 2012 to June 2013, and it also shelved plans to develop a trilogy based on the successful novel. But with both critics and audiences enjoying the film, Paramount "will now actively turn to developing a sequel", according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director Marc Forster expressed interest in returning recently, as did Pitt. If the film continues to be a box office success, then we may end up seeing a World War Z trilogy. Wow. I'm honestly shocked at the moderate success this film has been having. I was assured of it destruction, but I'm glad for Pitt, he deserves to be in another franchise.

Wb take note wwz cost more than mos and will not make anywhere as much yet a sequel is greenlit. Mos wil do 800 mil+ they can have more. If they invest in other characters lile flash and wonder woman.

I just got back from seeing this and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how good it turned out. Could've used more blood and gore but I understand why it didn't. What kind of world do we live in where a movie plagued with production problems is more enjoyable (IMO) than "Man of Steel"?

@kalelhawj, please do explain how I am trolling when all I did was express how happy I was that WWZ turned out to be a great movie and enjoyed it better than MoS. Hence the (IMO) which stands for IN MY OPINION. Ass. Anyway, it's more of a statement of irony as I had high expectations for MoS and wound up being very disappointed with it and I was very leary of WWZ and was surprised by how good it was.

I couldn't believe how anti-climatic and awful WWZ was.

Absolutely the worst film I've seen all year. I don't know how such crap has gotten any positive reception from the critics. The direction is terrible, Brad Pitt has the least emotive performance he's given in years, the story's beyond dumb, and somehow the editing there is even worse than in Forster's Quantum of Solace. It's like a Roland Emmerich film played straight.

The Romero films are classic, but after the 3rd remake it was dry. This had almost a constant amount of action throughout the film. It's movies like this that make me want to buy the books that spawned it. Bravo to World War Z, as far as I'm concerned, best action movie of the summer so far...until Pacific Rim I assume.
