Last year, Marvel Studios released its first true horror project with Disney+ Special Presentation, Werewolf by Night. We'd expected Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to head down the horror route, but outside of a few scary moments, it was surprisingly timid.
There's no word on where we'll next see Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing, but a new rumour may offer us an idea of what's next for them and the MCU's other horror characters.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is developing an Adventure Into Fear TV series. We have no details beyond that, though it's worth noting this report comes shortly after rumblings of there being plans for Elsa Bloodstone in the MCU.
Adventure into Fear was a comic book anthology series published by Marvel Comics between 1970 and 1975. The series initially started as a continuation of Adventure into Mystery and later became primarily associated with horror and supernatural-themed stories.
Man-Thing debuted in issue #10, leading to the title being retitled "Man-Thing" a couple of months later. From that point on, it primarily revolved around the swamp-dwelling creature, though that's not necessarily an indication Marvel Studios will head down a similar route.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time an Adventure Into Fear project has been considered. When Marvel Television was still a thing back in 2019, Jeph Loeb teased plans to connect a slate of horror-themed projects, Defenders-style.
"We started having the same conversation, which was there is in the comic book world the Spirit of Vengeance, and they are this sort of unusual group of characters, which involve Ghost Rider, which involve Hellstrom, which involve Hellstrom's sister, Anna," he said at the time. "We suddenly saw that there were three or four shows that we could put together that we now refer to as Adventure Into Fear."
Those plans never came to fruition (primarily because Marvel Television was disbanded in favour of Kevin Feige taking charge of small screen storytelling) but it appears Marvel Studios has chosen to revisit the concept for the MCU.
It's an exciting prospect, anyway, and we'd bet on it being rated TV-MA and falling under the new "Marvel Spotlight" banner. Characters like Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, and Mephisto could all take centre stage in Adventure into Fear, and there have been rumblings for a while now that plans are already in place for Johnny Blaze's long-awaited return to our screens.
Stay tuned for updates.
