Guy Pearce's IRON MAN 3 Role Is ‘Kind of A Cameo’

While not offering much, Lawless actor Guy Pearce recently dished on his role in Marvel's third Iron Man installment, referring to it as “kind of cameo stuff.” Also comments on turning down Daredevil

Promoting the recently released prohibition-era gangster film, Lawless, Australian actor Guy Pearce made it a priority not to discuss the other anticipated film he's been working on, Marvel's Shane Black-directed third Iron Man installment. However, while speaking with Vulture, the Prometheus actor offered a few tidbits. When the New York blog brought up Pearce once turning down the titular role in Daredevil, he responded:

“The thing about Daredevil was that it was the role of Daredevil [that I didn't want to do]. Certainly in those days ... it was ten years ago. I've probably loosened up, and I feel a little more experimental in what I'll take on these days, but I still don't know that I would want to play the superhero myself, since I'm playing a different kind of character in this film. And I think that, based on the first two movies, there's a great chemistry between Robert [Downey Jr.] and Gwyneth [Paltrow], and I just think the films have a fun, joyful sort of quality about them. I've just enjoyed them. So I just felt like I wanted to be a part of this.

The main difference [from filming big tentpoles] was that, when I did The Time Machine, I was pretty much in all of it, so it was a really grueling experience. Prometheus and Iron Man are really kind of cameo stuff, so the experience of shooting them ... I mean, on some level, it's tricky because you feel like a bit of an outsider. You don’t really live the experience that you do when you're there all day every day with everybody. But at the same time, it can be more fun sometimes because you're just working in concentrated spurts.”

Considering Guy Pearce also refers to his role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus as sort of a cameo, we shouldn't look too much into it regarding his Aldrich Killian role. However, it's quite possible the statement could contradict earlier reports that claimed Sir Ben Kingsley's Mandarin villain would be behind-the-scenes. What do you think?

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Dale Dickey, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

jesus h, pearce as matt murdock...we'd get too addicted to him in the role. he's not the type of actor who would ever attatch to a 6 picture deal like marvel requires. it'd be a dream come true but will never happen.

helluva thought though, never even crossed my mind & now i can't see anyone but him!

His role in Prometheus is COMPLETELY a cameo, so if he's comparing that to Iron Man 3 maybe we should read into it!

Pearce is one of my favorite actors, and it's sad that we wont see a lot of him in this film. But, lets hope he makes this part memorable!

Come on guys. He was super funny in Lockout. Reminded me of a mix between Johne McClean and Tyler Durden. I laughed the whole movie.

I didn't know his role in Prometheus until after the credits, which is awesome. I know the Old Guy (Weyland?) didn't look like a real person per say, as in it was a makeup/wig job, but I didn't know Guy Pierce played him when he showed up.

People get too caught up in the amount of screen time a character has and forget to look at the impact. The actual Hulk was feature in the Avengers for no more than around 10 minutes of the movies 2 hour 15 minute runtime yet the character totally stole the show as the film's most memorable part.

All I care about is that Shane Black gives Pierce great lines to work with. If so it doesn't matter if Killian is a 5 - 10 minute cameo, his scenes will rock.

his cameo in hurt locker was the best. it was a lot like chris hemsworth's role in star trek. it's this character that you get attached to that suddenly dies in the beginning of the movie

he woulda made a GREAT Riddler for Nolan..
i thought Ben Kingsley's the one who's gonna have the smaller villain role..oh, well...

don't think he's made the wrong decision regarding DD though. but i definitely can pic him as Matt, in a future reboot, especially one done by marvel itself..but, since he's already become part of the MCU, i don't think they'd cast him in a different role.
*Daredevil's been returned to Marvel Studios by Fox, since they've missed their deadline to start a reboot.
