Favreau on Iron Man 2: If Not in 3-D, Then IMAX

Director Jon Favreau said that he wasn't able to shoot Iron Man 2 in 3-D, but there's a good chance it will be in IMAX.

Only yesterday, the news dropped that a one-minute demo of Iron Man 2 footage converted into 3-D has been created and Marvel Studios is shopping around for a good price on converting the entire movie into 3-D. However, before you get too excited (or bent out of shape if you're not a big 3-D fan), think back to an interview director Jon Favreau gave to MTV not too long ago in which he said that it's unlikely we'll ever see Iron Man 2 in the 3-D format:

"There are a few drawbacks to it at this point--there's more cost involved, and it also forces you to shoot digitally. My cinematographer [Matthew Labatique] really likes film, and Iron Man had a certain look because it was film."

However, if you're just dying to see Iron Man 2 in another format, Favreau did leave open the possiblity of seeing it in IMAX:

"...either shooting in the IMAX format, or blowing it up to IMAX."

I really need to see a movie in IMAX to see what the fuss is about. From everything I hear it supposedly has a bluray kind of quality to it, must investigate further!

If the movie is shot in digital it won't be blurry! But if it's just a regular, shot on celluloid movie it will be a little blurry when shown on the giant screen of Imax.

@ASSASSINS, Imax is shot digitally in 150mm (milimeter) celluloid film, regular movies are shot in 70 mm. Imax is roughly twice the size of reg. film. The picture is so clear and huge it can make you disoriented if you're standing up and make you fall over. It's awesome to behold!

Much better for IMAX than 3D. I wouldn't see IM 2 in 3D but I sure as hell would in IMAX.

Sounds awesome DDD, the scenes in the Dark knight that filmed in IMAX on the bluray are super crisp. Now I just need to go see one I'm convinced- thanks DDD

The IMAX near me only plays nature movies, never Hollywood movies, so I've only seen, like, giant ants and $@%# like that. It can give you a neck ache if you have a bad seat...

Come to think about it the Star Wars prequels were shot digitally and look really good although there's still no Star Wars movies on bluray grrrrr!

Atlanta every memorial day weekend at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the Hilton Atlanta and the Sheraton this year too. Downtown there are a bunch of hotels lumped together over a few blocks, and the fanboys take it all over for a long weekend. Pretty fun. Concerts, the whole deal, the cosplayers take the streets, most of the GI Joe folks carry real firearms... can't say I blame them. Atlanta's getting rough again.

I usually drop in for a day each year. Last year the wife talked me into dressing as Scarecrow (That took three months to put together), cool costume I went for the later Batman Animated series version, Black hat noose and all. She was Natu from GL, looked pretty hot in her suit. She'd just cut her hair short so all she had to do was dye it black and use some cosmetics stuff she bought somewhere to bronze herself up. I've seen some random pics of us with people who wanted us to pose for them on flickr last year.

Check it out: http://www.dragoncon.org/index.php
If you live in AL TN or SC its worth a trip, don't think I'd come up from as far as FL though.

I'm a comic guy mostly so talk with the creators and get things signed. I like the panels, with TBS (cartoon networks parent co) in Atlanta we get a lot of the Adult Swim Creators I sit in on those. I hit the bars and concerts at night.

@ Brent, its weird but we've had a really mild summer down here. Last year it was pushing a hundred with humidity in the 90% range (the last few years, really) but this weekends supposed to be like mid 80's and high 70's. That's like early October weather for us. Yes we sweat through Halloween here. Its a bitch.

@nerosday: Cool, where can we see the pics? Have any links? I dig cosplay, but I don't have the guts to go for it. My buddy has asked me three years in a row to put something together with him. He's usually anime characters, but this year he was Sabretooth. Nobody ever gives him any $#%& about it because he's 6'3" and a great martial artist, but I bet some people are dinks about it.

Too far for me! I'm in SoCal!

Bijous: Lee was trying to get under my skin by taking my avatar. Pretty sad if you ask me. Then today I saw someone else with my avatar, except it was in like a negative mode, like on a camera, you can set the video to negative mode.

This year no costumes, but next year I carving pieces of wood into an honest to god version of Black Mask, staining it ebony and attaching the pieces by two clasps at base of the skull head with an internal hinge on the inside at the crest of the head. The rest is just a blood spattered suit a drill and some black latex gloves. I'm about a third of the way through whittling the face of the mask, if my measurements are off I'm gonna be pissed. Cut in some gaps between the teeth I can get a straw through, and som opaque contacts and I'll be all set.

I'm trying to talk her into being the girl Robin, but no dice so far her hair's back to blond and long again so I think it'd be cool, but she doesn't like Robin. lol

@Tyler: I think you've pretty much got that avatar locked down, brother! They're just posers...
NERO
NERO - 9/3/2009, 2:48 AM
Lol, the more covered you are the less they really interact with you it seems. The Scarecrow thing kept them at arms length mostly, except for this kid who was dressed as Batman he was trying to headlock me for a pic, so I just took him by the shoulders looked in his face very uncomfortably close and said, "No." Lol... I was serious and he knew it. Funny moment. He kinda wandered away after that.

I typed in Dragoncon 2008 Scarecrow, but I don't see my pics anymore. There are a few other guys there though, mine was better... lol

As for Court, I mean Mrs Nero (Nerosway I should call her) I just get the one other chick out of about six we saw there dressed as Soranik Natu. I'll have to dig around for the one we took, I have them on a memorey stick somewhere.

@DDD: That Cap Oz stuff is funny! I was the one who first made that little Captain Australia flag.

@LEEE: Oh, yeah! I'm a h-u-g-e Guy Ritchie fan! Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels is brilliant!

Yeah, it makes sense to play with the numbers. "You get 2, count them, 2 Iron Men in Iron Man 2" and the sequel will be Iron Man 3-D!

Thor cameo in Iron Man 2? Where'd you hear that? It would be Don Blake, if anything. The Hulk is supposed to be in IM2, though probably just Tony watching footage or something.
