The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us some of the best action sequences from any comic book movie and it from what we've seen from Captain America: Civil War it looks to only be getting better. Now with phase three well on it's way, I wanted to go back and share with you all what I believe to be the best action sequences from each film in Marvel's phase two. So let's get started
Barrel of Monkeys - Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3, for all the dislike it gets for changing the character of the Mandarin, has some of the best action sequences I've seen from Marvel and definitely the best airplane sequence in a superhero film since Superman Returns. The sequence is filled with edge of the seat tension, which the score playing adds to, as Iron Man races to save all these people when he can only carry four. There's also the fact that it was pretty much done practically and not in CGI. It's the action sequence best from Iron Man 3, and probably the best from all the Iron Man films.
Invasion of Asgard - Thor: The Dark World
While Thor: The Dark World was a overall a disappointment, it does have its good moments. The invasion of Asgard by the Dark Elves being one of them. Sure the Dark Elves are unsuccessful in getting the Aether , but it shows that they are a formidable foe against Asgard by being able to get past Asgards defenses and freaking Heimdall, who can pretty much see everything. It also leads to a big event for Thor as his mother is killed during this invasion in attempt to keep Jane Foster safe. And it gets some major points for giving Heimdall something badass to do.
Street Fight - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Ever wondered what a perfect superhero fight scene would look like? Well Captain America: The Winter Solider has you covered as the street fight between Bucky and Cap is just perfection in every sense of the word. It's a fast paced, edge of your seat, hard hitting, amazingly shot and choreographed fight that is the measuring stick that I use for any hand to hand fight scene from any comic book movie from any studio. Only one other recent fight scene has gotten close to tying it.
Prison Break - Guardians of the Galaxy
The prison break in Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most funnest sequences that Marvel's films have done as it melds its comedic moments and its action in such a fun, outlandish, and hilarious way that you can't help but have fun while watching the entire sequence unfold. It's also the first time that we see these five great characters work together to escape.
Battle For Sokovia - Avengers: Age of Ultron
Avengers: Age of Ultron is filled with so much awesomness, but the final battle for Sokovia is a grand spectacle that caputres the word epic in every sense possible. We not only get to see the Avengers go up against Ultron and hundreds of other smaller Ultrons, but we also see Quicksilver, Scarlett Witch, and Vision recking shop. There's also that awesome part where Iron Man, Thor, and Vision use their powers to take down Ultron. The sequence also captures the epicness from the tracking shot in The Avengers, and honestly builds upon it making it even better.
Small Fight - Ant-Man
I never thought we'd get an Ant-Man film, and I couldn't even imagine how they'd manage to pull off the action for a film like it. Ant-Man has a lot of nice action sequences that are all creative and clever, but I think the fight between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket is the best the film had. It's so much fun because of how creative the team got with it. How they go from fighting on helicpoter, to a suit case, to the train set in a little girls room. It's one of, if not, the most creative action sequence in a superhero film.
Well there you have it! The best action sequences from phase two of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, or at least in my opinion. So what do you all think? Do you agree with my choices or would you have picked something else for one of the films? Let me know in comments below!
