Iron Man 3 dissapointed me a lot. When i first saw the trailer back in November 2012 and i first saw the Mandarin, i was sold. That character was completely epic. I don't even know how many times i saw that trailer, i guess around 25 times. I waited a lot for the second and longuer trailer. That one alredy sold me a lot more. I didn't even knew the character, i knew it existed but i didn't have any comics about him and i didn't knew his story. I used to listen to the music and the voicce of the mandarin of that second trailer a lot because i loved it.
So when i went to the premier of Iron Man 3 you can imagine why i hate that movie a lot. When the Trevor Slattery Twist happened i thought "oh, that must be a double of the Mandarin or something" and then when the movie kept going on i said "well, this must be some iron man comic storyline". So then when the movie ended i was like: "That was it? This is all i ever waited for?" I couldn't believe it and i was very sad. I live in Spain so the premier was some days earlier than in U.S.A. (Altough of course i used to see all of the trailers in english). So i waited for the movie to arrive to the cinemas of the United States because i thought that maybe in Spain they used another version or something because i literally couldn't believe it. When i arrived home i did a review for youtube very angry and even swearing. But i didn't really expressed myself very good because i was angry.
Days later, when the movie arrived to the cinemas of the United States a lot of people and reviewers that i used to watch on Youtube seemed to like it. And now i was kinda angry. The exuse that was used the most was: "Oh, come on fanboys! The Mandarin is just an evil bad guy! Who cares! The movie was great! The Mandarin is a B or C class villain. What is the matter if he is not like in the comics?"
Look, i don't care if the mandarin is even a class Z villain. I just wanted an epic character, with epic phrases that made me had chillis. What i want to spread is that i didn't like Mandarin because he was not like in the comics. I didn't like the Mandarin because he was not character i wanted. He was not epic, he was not cool, he was not a bad ass. That is why i didn't like the Mandarin. I don't care if in the comics is stupid or not a cool enough villain, cause i don't care about the Mandarin from the comics, even i think he would't work in a movie with those "magic rings".
Plus, if you are using that excuse then i can say that Obadiah Stane was a C class villain. Or iron man was a B class hero. But look what happened: They rocked! And even if I ever accept the Mandarin's twist i would still not enjoy it, because i think to make a good sequel you have to keep the same tone and style of movie. That is why the Chronicles of Riddick is worse than Pitchblack. I felt like i was watching a james bond movie because he did not have the armour in a lot of action scenes and he was like a detective trying to resolve a case about people exploding (extremis). And there was kid. You cannot throw a random kid in an iron man movie because it completely changes the tone. I guess that was disney's fault.
So... do you know what i did when i arrived from the cinema aside from doing the review? I watched one more time the trailer and i said: That is a cool movie and a cool villain. Not what i watched.
